Only in Naples by Katherine Wilson is a fun and entertaining read. I loved following an American doing everything wrong by Italian standards. Her stories about adapting to the Neapolitan way of life are filled with humor and warmth. It’s a charming look at the joys and challenges of living in a different culture, perfect for anyone interested in travel and Italian traditions.
Excellent food memoir about a woman who moves to Italy for college and falls in love. In law issues, love, Italy, food and cooking - everything I love all in one book.
I needed a hug when I sat down to read this memoir, and that’s just what I got! In this delightful book, post-college Wilson travels abroad to Italy for her “experience abroad”. Her account of her journey to and in Naples was just what I needed. I fell in love with Raffaela, and even wished she’d been my mother-in-law! Wilson’s description of Naples, and the food there was yummy. I never knew you “don’t eat the crust of the pizza first” and that Neapolitans like to “catch a mass” when referring to going to church. I enjoy reading food memoirs, and when combined with travel, it truly makes me sing! It was perfect reading this since we’ve booked our first trip to Italy for this summer. This was truly a delightful read that didn’t disappoint! Thank you Netgalley for the advance copy.
Interesting take on like in Naples and then as part of a Neapolitan family. Slowly paced, good if you like Italian food, and similar in prose to other books written by US authors.
I loved this book and found myself smiling all the way through. It is not normally my kind of book but wanted to try something different and I am glad I did. Truly fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable.
This is a truly wonderful book. It's funny, personable, memorable, and manages to show that Italians are sometimes like their stereotypes, while still managing to be individuals. I loved this book!
