DNF at 40 percent. This story offers no new take on the historical fiction genre and is silly to the point of the ridiculous. I just couldn't stomach the rest.

Solid clean regency with a spunky heroine and a solid hero, with a touch of action to add to the conflict.

I really liked this mystery set in Regency England.

The title says it all: Loves, Lies and Spies.

I'm looking forward to reading more books by Cindy Anstey.

Anstey really captures the tone of classic literature, though with slightly less dense prose. We see the careful consideration of propriety and the desire for freedom. Juliana wants to pursue her intellectual passions but acknowledges the limitations of the society she lives in, the need to at least appear to follow certain behaviors. And she's complex. Sure, she most wants to study insects but she also has a fondness for fine dresses and elegance. She defines femininity on her own terms. And there's a layer of subtle humor. Not for everyone but I can forsee an audience for it.

Ah, Juliana and Spencer. Although she skewed a little twee at times, and he isn't the most hugely memorable protagonist (his patter with his friend is adorable, though), that's not a criticism. This is a terrifically enjoyable read, an excellent diversion, and a good escape. I dislike the words "plucky" and "resourceful" when applied to a young protagonist, and yet, that's Juliana all the way. Good pacing. I am excited to pick up another Regency YA from this author.

A fun, fast-paced read. It's a clean book, there's no swearing or romance beyond a single kiss.
