Slow. I wanted to enjoy this one. Finally Adams story he lost his wife in childbirth and for 2 years was in mourning. I enjoyed how H/h met and was hoping for a good story like the other in series but I was bored early on and felt like this dragged.
Fast paced and great conversations! Dialogue was a little spicy! Enjoy!
Excellent. Liked the characters and story flow. Like books that are from history. Fun to see perspective. Recommend reading!
WEDDING NIGHT WITH THE EARL - Amelia Grey
SLOW BUT STEADY - 3 stars
#3 in the Heirs' Club of Scoundrels Trilogy series
Plot - 3 stars - Adam Greyhawke is newly risen to the aristocracy, although he has had friends within the ton since his school days. After losing his wife in childbirth at a young age, he has sworn off marriage and relationships. However, meeting Kathryn Wright has caused him to reconsider since she's witty and interesting.
Writing - 3 stars - The concept is different and the writing is smooth and seamless. However, it moved extremely slowly, it seemed. There was much witty banter and conversation between Adam and Kathryn, but that's all there was for much of the book. Adam would encourage Kathryn to walk without her cane, then he'd "desire" her and their conversation would turn to kisses and romance. He seemed to have a one-track mind, and I found myself putting it down without a compelling interest in resuming.
Characters - 2.5 stars - Adam started out as fascinating since his first scene is with a couple of thieves, and he acquits himself well and in an unusual way. But then he simply becomes another aristocrat who pursues a woman, using his charm and romance to get his way. He's a one-note character--I want you, I won't have you, I want you, I won't take advantage of you, etc. etc. Ho hum. Kathryn is slightly more interesting since she is the coddled niece of a duke ever since she lost her family in a carriage accident and became lame herself. But there is little development of her character, and I didn't find myself all that interested in finding out her story. As a matter of fact, there isn't much more revealed about her story.
Title - 2 stars - The title is deceptive. What wedding night? There's nothing at all about a wedding night, or even a wedding for that matter. The implication is that there is some sort of fake wedding...or forced wedding...or something...but there's actually nothing about a wedding at all. I wonder what the author was thinking...
Cover - 3.5 stars - Pretty, romantic cover. The fact that it's almost all white is a nice contrast to the embracing couple, and indicates the innocence of the "bride."
Overview - 3 stars - I haven't read either of the others in this trilogy, so perhaps I missed something of the history that would have helped maintain my interest. Adam and Kathryn make an OK couple, but that's it--nothing special. The author had a good concept for the characters, but sadly she failed to deliver. I found the characters somewhat unappealing due to their lack of depth. There was no real reason for me to hope for their HEA because I didn't feel I knew them well enough. Although Grey attempted to create some fascination with their back stories, I still lost interest and found it slow going. That's not to say that I particularly disliked it, but generally I found this book to be very put-downable.
