Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Hm. I don't know how I feel about this one. I found myself skimming parts, but not enough to DNF it. I liked the town of Rebel, but there was so much going on that it was hard to keep up. Also? I feel like I didn't know enough about anyone to actually get invested in the story. There's a lot going on - Brandy's bakery, Tyler's bullriding, the moonshine, Tyler's brother, Brandy's grandfather. And it got to be too much. I mean, it's a find read, but I was underwhelmed.
Have not read this book as I did not get time to read it yet. Will update the review after I have gotten a chance to read it.
I enjoyed this contemporary romance that was a good follow up to the first book of the series. Tucker and Brandy were characters I liked, and I enjoyed their developing romance. The book held my attention and was enjoyable to read.
RED-HOT TEXAS NIGHTS - Kimberly Raye
#2 in the Rebel Moonshine romance series
GREAT CHARACTERS - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Brandy is the middle sister, granddaughter of one of the duo who created Texas Thunder, the best moonshine in the area. With the debts she has for her bakery, she needs to recreate it to sell and make a killing. Although she doesn't have the real recipe, she's created one that seems to be just as good. But she needs to watch it being made so she can vouch for its authenticity. With local stills, that's a problem. So she's on a mission to reach her goal. Tyler McCall is looking for the same moonshine guy, but he's in search of his brother who is getting mixed up with bad crowd. The secondary story of Tyler's friend and Brandy's bakery assistant getting together was nice, and a good reflection of the main romance.
Writing - 4 stars - I was caught up in the story right from the first page. Even though it's been a while since I read the first book in the series, I was drawn in to the characters, and it was easy to pick up where I had left off.
Characters - 4 stars - These are great characters! We still have the feud between the Tuckers and Sawyers, despite the beginnings of togetherness from the previous book. Brandy is pretty and voluptuous and a great baker with a mindset towards making her business a success rather than thinking about romance. And Tyler (a Sawyer cousin) is the black sheep of the family who is trying to become a top bull rider. The set-up for their romance is great. They've been sex buddies for years, since high school, and are finding their attraction becoming stronger and stronger despite their desire to be successful at work rather than a relationship.
Title - 4 stars - The title is pretty straightforward and self-explanatory. Brandy and Tyler's relationship has begun after dark and is only now just beginning to be more than hot sexy nights.
Cover - 4 stars - Wow! Nothing more sexy than a shirt-less cowboy. Of course, there could be a little more creativity, but this one fits the bill.
Overview - 4 stars - I actually liked this better than the first in the series since the focus was on the romance (well, the hot sex) rather than the moonshine, although that was still an important part of the story. Raye did a great job building a nice romantic story between two people who love each other but are fighting their attraction. The characters are well-built, with some interesting back stories. They are warm, funny, and sexy, with some very sweet moments together. The ending seemed a little abrupt, but I suppose once they admitted their feelings, there was really no need to continue.
