Unfortunately this book has gone in my DNF pile. It just wasn't engaging me like it would have years ago when I first requested it. My reading tastes have changed a lot over the years as I've gotten older and unfortunately some of the books requested years ago have been affected by my reading tastes and the fact that a lot of books for younger audiences haven't been grasping my attention as of late. I thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I loved the themes that were portrayed in this story, mostly the friendship and what it means to be a good friend and acceptance, which both mean a lot to me, as a person. John was and still is one of the writes, which writing style suits my taste, so he didn't disappoint me with this book. It was really touching, while at the same time being hilarious, which is really hard to achieve! Truly a real story of mental illness, friendship and so many more things.. really perfect mix of seriousness and laughter, that you need in your life.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The first thing that caught my eye was the colorful cover. A note to authors - covers really can get more readers for your book. I saw and interesting cover and decided to read the blurb. It was then I knew I HAD to read this book.
I've always been fascinated by psychology and mental illness, so when I saw that the author had taken on such heavy subjects from the perspective of teenagers I was intrigued. I found the characters to be relatable, though sometimes manipulative. I appreciate how realistic they are, particularly if you took their ages into account.
Overall, the story was a sweet, interesting coming-of-age tale with a perfect mix of of seriousness and laughter.
