I loved the previous books in this series series, but this one? It didn't even feel like it belonged in the series. I didn't like the characters or the storyline. I'm so disappointed that I had to force myself to finish this book.
This is probably going to be more of fangirl letter to Joanna Wylde than a review, but I don’t care. Joanna Wylde outdid herself! I’ve read all her MC books: Reapers and Silver Valley. Wylde not only really knows her craft but seems to really know the MC world. I’ve read so many other MC books and they do not compare to Wylde’s research. She brings the MC world to life and seems to really know the rules that it abides by and stays true to it.
Finally, we get Gage. I feel like we have been waiting for Gage forever!! Gage has been in the previous Reaper’s books and I always enjoyed any little tidbit that Wylde gave us in the previous books. Gage is Picnic, the Reaper’s President, right hand man. He is a great strong and sturdy character all throughout and even in “Reaper’s Fire. Gage has always put the club first, it is his heart and soul. When he takes on a special “assignment” he has to travel to Hallies Falls to deal with another MC club that is not abiding by the rules of the MC world. Gage changes his name to Cooper and is visiting under the guise that he is a divorced man with two children. He sees an ad for a handy man posted by Tinker. Tinker and Gage have instant chemistry. They have a very strong attraction to each other but they both have many complications that they need to overcome first.
Tinker is fantastic. I loved her so much. She is tough but also very pure of heart and vulnerable. She has been kicked down by life a few times and is trying to find herself again. She is in the middle of a divorce and has moved back to Hallies Falls to take care of her father. Her mother has recently passed away and her father’s health is a major concern also. Tinker is happy to be back home but has a lot to deal with. One of those issues is that “Cooper” and her can’t fight their attraction to each other. Another complication is that he has a girlfriend. As the reader we know the real reason that “Cooper” has this girlfriend-all MC business and loyalty-but Tinker is not privy to this so it complicates her feelings for Cooper.
There are many levels to this story. One is Gage/Cooper’s dedication to his brothers in the MC club. It is admirable and it ultimately pays off but it comes with great sacrifice. Second, the development of both Gage and Cooper was so rewarding to see. Both of them develop and grow as the story progresses. I really loved them both individually and as a couple. As a couple Tinker and Gage have many obstacles to overcome: their pasts, their present and ultimately-their future. Wylde gives us some great secondary characters that had me laughing-out-loud and I loved them! She also gives us some insight into what the future will look like for not only Tinker and Gage but the future of the Club as well. I have to add any time Picnic makes an appearance I just love him more and more. For me, this was another great read by Wylde:full of adventure, passion, laugh-out-loud moments and MC violence. Now… counting down until the next Reaper’s book!
** spoiler alert ** I waffled between 3 and 4 stars. But because this is such a strong series I went with 4. You don't always connect perfect 5's with every story.
There just didn't seem to be that "cliff hanger" edge that I usually see in this series. Don't get me wrong, it has action, the usual MC drama and chaos. But I really think it's the "other woman" that left a bad taste in my mouth. Her part in this story is what brought it all down for me. I know you have to have a villain in every story, but as a woman she really was the worst kind of ugly. And we went thru so much "bad" that I felt cheated by the ending, I didn't get as much HEA as I expected. It's like we jumped so far ahead after they finally hooked up that I missed the Happily ever middle. Tinker is such a strong woman, making a new life for herself after a failed marriage. And Gage being a Reaper's Hottie, I needed more hotness between them. The "job" he has to do for the Reaper's takes up so much time that I felt like I was missing a few chapters of happiness. Not a bad book, just not one I connected well with. But still one of my TOP 5 favorite MC series.

If you haven't read any of the Reaper's MC series, GO! DO THAT NOW!!! While you don't have to have read the other books in the series, it's still a good idea to, just so you have a whole history on the club and the members. Plus Horse and Marie's story is SUCH a great start - thinking about re-reading it again actually....
Back to Tinker and Gage's story. Gage moves into town to get close to the local MC (the Nighthawks) and "spy" on them for the Reapers' - his actual club. Rumor has it that the President is running the club into the ground and possibly taking money from the Reapers. That cannot happen.
Tinker (can I tell you how much fun I have saying that in my head?) runs the local candy/chocolate shop while she's taking care of her father that seems to suffer from Alzheimer's. Tinker provides Cooper (Gage) with the perfect cover - handyman - and a place to live while doing surveillance of the Nighthawks.
Tinker and Gage are amazingly hot for each other even though Gage has a girlfriend, Tinker is still married but the chemistry Tinker and Gage have is undeniable...
I highly recommend this book! If you love MCs, you love strong, alpha males and strong women, read this!
Smoking hot. Reapers just keep getting better and better.
I think the smoke surrounding Hallies Falls had more to do with the chemistry between Cooper/ Gage and Tinker than the wild fires.
Gage’s loyalty to his fellow Reapers never wavered. Not even when it became dangerous for Tinker to have any involvement with him. That danger came from the unhinged Talia and her brother March. It felt that Gage was leading two lives, and for all intended purposes he was. He had his role to fill with Talia but his heart was with Tinker.
Tinker had the same type of loyalty toward her father. She was an independent strong business woman who walked away from her no good husband in the big city to return to her small town to take care of her ailing father.
Sometimes I would forget who the antagonists were in this book. Was it Talia and her sadistic brother? Or was it the wild fire threatening the small town of Hallies Falls? The description of the fires was very realistic for me. I could actually imagine all the smoke and the difficulty to breathe for all the characters involved. I was more concerned that the fire was going to actually cause more damage to our couple than Talia and March.
The only down side I had for Reapers Fire was that it ended without really ending. There is so much left to finish. The Epilogue hinted at a messy ending so I am hoping that we the reader will finally get our thirst to see an end to Talia in another book. Either way there is always fun and sexy adventure to be had in any Reaper themed book. Until next time.
