Revenge and justice, that was the plan for the Lawless family. Riley and his sibling are ready to finally give the revenge they have been waiting on. The justice their parents need. When Riley falls for the enemy Ellie Stratton things change.
Blake gave us one hell of a suspenseful book. They're so many twist and turn you don't know who to believe or trust. Ruthless had me on the edge of my set, every page I turn put me deeper into the Lawless family life. I loved all the characters, this family is tight and their relationship is strong.
This was just book one in the series and let me tell you, I can't wait to get the rest of this familys story. I can't say to much without giving away the story. This is one book you just have to grab. All of Lexi Blake books are phenomenal and I am hooked.
This is the spin – off series from the Masters and Mercenaries Book #11 – Dominance Never Dies (if you want to know more about the series, READ HERE!) a series about the Lawless siblings, with their dream of vengeance against the people who destroyed their family. It is the vengeance that has fueled every single decision of theirs and it is now the time to have their justice, one way or the other.
Drew Lawless, Bran Lawless and Riley Lawless are brothers, but they do not share a name, for sharing a name is against their plan. But plans have a way of unraveling in a way that leaves most humans breathless.
Riley is a lawyer – because lawyer was a profession that the Lawless siblings needed for their plan. Now this profession is going to be the one that gets them one step closer to Ellie Stratton, the daughter of one of their targets. Riley is focused and suffers from a bit of guilty conscience for the way that their eldest sibling, Drew had to give up everything to keep them together. His need for vengeance might not have been incessant, but his loyalty to his family was absolute.
Ellie Stratton is trying to take over her father’s company, StratCast, a company that was first found together with the Benedict Lawless, Philip Stratton, Castalano and Patricia Cain – three people who murdered Benedict Lawless and his wife, but failed in the endeavour to murder his children. His children, who will now be using Ellie Stratton as a part of their revenge.
Ellie has been through tough times, she has gone through a divorce that she wasn’t exactly expecting and her father’s death, but more than that is the secret that has been weighing down on her with her father’s last breath. She is the literally the epitome of female heroines that I have come to expect from Lexi – she is strong; she is a bit hesitant but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t know her own mind, she might have lacked a bit of confidence but she was NEVER EVER a doormat and that is why it was a treat to read her POV!
This series, at least with this book, shows that this is going to be a bit more different from the M&M series – for this has the underlines of familial feelings that is more than what was seen in the original series and it was a good different, really!
I adored the kind of dysfunctional family that the Lawless siblings had with each other – but also their loyalty, and their apparent love for each other. Their interactions, even with Ellie were with a foundation of love and loyalty. Not that M&M didn’t have the foundation of family, but it was a family of loyalty, but the Lawless? They were a family in the strictest sense, and it definitely showed, especially considering they all ended up as a choice for each other in the end.
And as with all the heroes that I have already fallen in love with, Riley is the epitome of the hero I have come to admire. He had such a hard time when it came to understanding and getting used to feeling that in-consummate love for Ellie, but when he did, he went all out! Especially when it mattered!
Ellie, on the other hand, was far more logical when it came to Riley’s deception (for of course there was deception!), yes it hurt, but she had enough to sense to keep an open mind, especially considering their history together!
All in all, it was a treat to know that Lexi never really disappoints, not once! Now, I can’t even decide whose HEA I am more excited for – Theo or Bran’s!! :D
Ruthless is the first book in the Lawless trilogy by Lexi Blake (3 brothers=3 books, right?). We met Mia, the fourth sibling, in Dominance Never Dies the 11th book in the Masters and Mercenaries series. She and Case appear quite a lot and I loved seeing them. I must admit that I am a little worried about the second book because it's going to be Brad's, but Drew is the one who is planned to seduce the lady, I hope Drew will fail because I don't want to see Drew kissing Brad's lady in the best case scenario.
I absolutely loved this book! Riley is swoony, and Ellie is a strong and smart heroine. I love the entire Lawless family, and can't wait to read the rest of the series!
I loved this book. It was my first read by Lexi Blake. I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future. You can see my full review on the blog.
I love this new series! While I can't imagine all the Lawless siblings have gone through to bring justice to their parents, it's a very believeable story.
Riley is the pretty boy brother who is used when they need "eye candy". He is going to be the one to lure or distract Ellie while the Lawless clan tries to find proof of StratCast's misdealings. The one thing Riley didn't expect is that Ellie isn't ruthless or a thief like others in the company.
Ellie is just trying to get her father's company. Until she gets dragged in to Riley and family's plans to get justice.
I can't wait for Drew's story. I think he might be my favorite brother!
Sexy. Smart. Suspenseful. The three things that I love about Lexi Blake's books. This is a must read for fans of the author and for those who need to be her fan.
*Note rating was updated after reading this one again before book two*
To get to the bottom of your parent’s murder what would you do? Would you do whatever it took, even if that means lying and hurting someone you want if it is for the greater good? Would you be ruthless in your pursuit, so much so that the person you love could get hurt themselves? Who can you trust, who was involved, and who else are possible victims in their schemes? You ask yourself all of these questions while reading Ruthless. Be prepared to be sucked in, to think you have some of the things figured out only to be proven wrong after a chapter or two.
Riley will make you want to slap him for what he does but you can’t help but want him to get the answers he needs for his brothers and sister and understand what is driving his determination. I loved Ellie, and hated what was happening to her, I wanted her to not be sucked into the evilness that was her father and stay on track on having the reigns of her company.
Don’t be surprised if you see a certain last name mentioned a time or two, this is a series of it’s own but we all need some sexy security in our lives don’t you agree. Hint hint. I wonder why type of crazy ride we are going to go on with the rest of the brothers, I think as readers we will be in for a suspense filled treat.
