Sheriff Seth Langston has always loved Jessie McAllen. The only problem is she has always been his brother Chase’s girl. But when Chase’s womanizing ways finally have Jessie finished with him, she finds herself having a one night stand with Seth. She’s always been attracted to him, even if she wouldn’t admit it to herself. Now Seth and Jessie have to deal with the fallout from their night together. Seth convinces Jessie to marry him and make a family but can they move past Chase to find the love that is waiting for them?
I have to admit, from the first chapter, I was ready for Jessie to show Chase the door and I was falling in love with Seth! I was cheering when Seth and Jessie decided to marry, knowing that they were soon figure out what I already knew, they were perfect for each other. This is the first time I’ve had the pleasure of reading Amy Lillard but I know it won’t be the last. Loving a Lawman was an enjoyable surprise read that I’m so very glad I picked up!!
Seth and Jessie are an odd couple that work well together. They were fun to read about and watch mature and grow throughout the story. I can’t say that there weren’t times that I wanted to climb in to the story and “Gibbs-smack” each a couple times, but that what you have to love about romance novels – the way the main characters exasperate you.
This story had the drama, the angst, and the annoying family memebers to add to the mix. I loved the fact that it evolved in to a storyline of a not perfect couple with not the kind of romantic relationship that it seems to be. The best story is one that keeps you thinking and rethinking what the turn of the page will bring.
I wanted to like this book. The characters were very well written and developed. I felt like some of it was fairly juvenile and for that I had to rate lower. The situation in the truck is what comes to mind—it isn't often that a man can tell a woman is a virgin based on "tightness" and even if that is the case, it made an otherwise likable character seem like a man-whore.
Overall, the writing was great. I do want to say, I am not a prude and sexual situations or profanity typicaly doesn't overly bother me. I do have an immense dislike for the Lord's name taken in vain however. This is my own preference but it did sway my thoughts on the book. Otherwise, it was a great read and I'd be curious to know how the rest of the series turns out.
This was a nice western romance. The story kept me interested and I loved the characters. The Langston family is a great set of characters. I really like how Jessie is such a strong character. She has much to overcome and a love to get over. I received an ebook copy of this book from netgalley for a fair and honest opinion.
