Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing book for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The 4th book in the Detective Helen Grace series and I enjoyed it as much as the first 3.
I like this series because each book solves a different story and most of the side stories don't build on each other, so you can read them in mostly any order.
The other thing I like about this series is that I don't have to read them back to back to be able to follow along. M.J Arlidge does a great job about throwing in reminders of the past and pertinent details to the storyline.
A great mystery, crime , thriller series that is well written and keeps your attention to the end!
Such a great series. I've enjoyed all the books in the Helen Grace series and this one did not disappoint.
I love a good series. Helen Grace is a series yet each book can be read as a standalone. The characters (Helen Grace) appears in each one but each story is its own crime to solve. Liar Liar is a thriller with plenty of actions, lots of surprises, and a ton of action. Sounds perfect, it is!
DI Helen Grace is an amazing character. She is a complex woman, working in a man’s world, and solving horrible crimes. In this book she is trying to find a serial arsonist. There is a race against time and even when the newspaper journalist starts writing stories about how she is failing to do her job she never strays from the path. She knows the route needed to find the perpetrator and does what needs to be done to solve the crime.
I love the format that M.J. Arlidge uses. The short chapters, broke into different characters and events, make the book easy to read. The story moves so quickly that it seemed I had just started it and I was already done. It was interesting to read the different points of view and different happenings of the same timeframes.
The ending… oh the ending. I am not sure what I am thinking more of. The person who was guilty of the arsons and how they were caught or the hint at the next book in this series.
This is an amazing book. I have recommended past Helen Grace books and cannot wait to share my thoughts on this one to my fellow thriller/suspense readers.
Absolutely fascinated by this intelligent, stoic DI who, despite her past family history, remains loyal to her friends and co-workers. She is emotionally tested in every one of her stories; the last one sending her to prison after being framed for the death of a family member.
Liar Liar hits her in the heart: her deceitful and obsessed boss betrays her and her coworkers believe him. Only her best friend, perhaps only friend, remains steadfast trying to redeem Helen and her career.
Well written, as always, this is a great addition to the DI Helen Grace series. I do, however, miss her unusual way of coping with stress and her inner demons. Hopefully she will find a new dominant she can trust.
Until recently, I had no knowledge of D.I. Helen Grace, but now I'm hooked; this is my second title in the series in as many weeks. The book starts with three simultaneous fires in one evening in Southampton. Neither fire is accidental, so the speculation immediately starts as to who is behind it and what the motivation is. The investigation is far from simple, but the pressure is on to get it solved as the victim count from the fires rapidly increase. I was torn, twisted, confused and excited throughout the book, and the ending had me sitting with my mouth open, wondering what had just hit me. This book is seriously great,
DI Helen Grace are chasing a serial arsonist in this book who has already claimed some lives in six fires during a 24-hour period. There seems to be no connection or common motives between these fires. Helen Grace and her team have to run against time to catch the arsonist before more innocent lives are claimed.
This is the fourth book in the DI Helen Grace series and is as good as the other three. It is a fast-paced thriller with lots of twists and turns with a complete surprise as to who the main culprit was. A compelling read and a great addition to the series.
Many thanks to a Berkley Publishing Group, Goodreads giveaway & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
I enjoyed this book as much as others I've read by Arlidge. He's definitely a go-to author for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for this free readers edition. In exchange I am providing an honest review.
I LOVE M.J. Arlidge and DI Helen Grace. Yes, I realize this is a genre I love anyway but Arlidge does it SO well!
In this title DI Helen Grace and her team are in a frantic search to find an arsonist who can also add murder to his/er resume. 9 fires in three nights, 4 people dead, several wounded. Any leads Grace and her team dig up are ending in dead ends and time is not on their side as it appears the arsonist is getting anxious. The investigation is not made easier by the dogged presence of media and the anger Grace endures from those who don't like her theories about the possible suspects. Add to the stress of the investigation a new Captain that the DI has to report to and get to know plus personal life changes and Helen is once again the most popular unpopular copper in Southhampton.
Fire freaks me out. I think it might be the thing that I would hate to be in the most. Arlidge must have observed, interviewed, etc firefighters to get a handle on how fire behaves because the descriptions of it make me feel like I'm *in* it. In this title Arlidge backed off of Grace's personal life a bit but still moved that storyline forward. I'm so curious to see where Arlidge takes Helen Grace professionally and personally.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group NAL, and M.J. Arlidge for an advanced copy of Liar Liar for an honest review.
Another great book in the Helen Grace series, Liar Liar does not disappoint. A thriller with lots of action, twists and turns, and D.I. Helen Grace on the hunt for an arsonist bent on destruction and terror. As with other books in the Helen Grace series I enjoyed reading Liar Liar and definitely recommend both it and the other books in this series.
The Helen Grace series by M.J. Arlidge is a series that never fails to impress and entertain. Every book I have read so far has been great and this one is not an exception. In this, book four, must Helen Grace and her colleagues stop an arsonist that is apparently randomly burning down buildings. But, could it be that there is some kind of plan, or is it just a crazy person that likes to burn down buildings?
The book is a page-turner. My favorite kind of page-turner with intensive short chapters that make you want to read just one more chapter and suddenly have you read half the book. After finishing the book can't I help but think that all this could have been avoided. That all the people that died in this book died because of some people's selfnesses. it's so tragic and it's also hard to write about the book's story since I don't want to spoil the book, so I will just say that Liar Liar is a really good book.
I honestly couldn't figure out who was behind it all, until at the last minute when I started to suspect one person. But, even after that did Arlidge surprise me with an intriguing twist to the story. I like Helen Grace, Charlie and the rest of the team very much and I like how human they all seem with flaws. Helen is very impulsive and I do feel that she is a bit self-destructive.
This has become a favorite series of mine and I love the way M.J. Arlidge write the books. Just don't do what I did and read book two before book one that spoils a bit of the "fun" of reading book one. Trust me, read the book in order.
This next story in the Helen Grace chronicles never fails to excite. If you love a good mystery, you should give this author a chance. It's not exactly a stand-out story, however, it doesn't let you down, either.
This is the second in the Helen Grace series by M.J. Arlidge that I have read so far and I am so glad I did! To be the fourth book in a series and be this interesting, then there is something good going on, in my opinion. I still wish I read the first two books in the series so that I knew what was going on with Detective Grace's backstory but I was able to follow along pretty well anyways.
The crimes in this novel were very different than the third installment. This felt more realistic as I would imagine in the life of a real detective no two days would be the same. The crimes were also not overly done so it felt chillingly plausible. It's a fast paced read! I would recommend reading this as well as the other books in this series. Cannot wait to read the next installment (and get to the first two finally...)
