Absolutely devine !!!! The characters come to life in this series. She is just the kind of heroine the justice system needed , she takes no prisoners. Very well done
Sorry folks had to DNF this one,,,,was soo slow and badly written!
(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)
Samantha Brinkman, an ambitious, hard-charging Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, is struggling to make a name for herself and to drag her fledgling practice into the big leagues. Sam lands a high-profile double-murder case in which one of the victims is a beloved TV star—and the defendant is a decorated veteran LAPD detective. It promises to be exactly the kind of media sensation that would establish her as a heavy hitter in the world of criminal law.
Though Sam has doubts about his innocence, she and her two associates (her closest childhood friend and a brilliant ex-con) take the case. Notorious for living by her own rules—and fearlessly breaking everyone else’s—Samantha pulls out all the stops in her quest to uncover evidence that will clear the detective. But when a shocking secret at the core of the case shatters her personal world, Sam realizes that not only has her client been playing her, he might be one of the most dangerous sociopaths she’s ever encountered.

Ever read a story where you really love the main character but couldn't give two hoots about the plot? That was this book for me.
Let's start by just saying how good Samantha Brinkman is - intelligent, brave, funny and sarcastic, a bunch of traits I like in my lead characters. She is one of those characters that you could envision on the big screen, pulling no punches and getting the job done. She was excellent...
It is such a shame that the author really didn't give her a vehicle to shine in. The story was slow, the minor characters were cardboard cut-outs from legal thrillers, the attempt at red herrings and twists were so poorly executed that it just became an exercise in eye-rolling. And all the references to pop culture and technology felt like a sad attempt to sound relevant. It was almost embarrassing.
I guess the moral here is this: just because you are a famous lawyer, doesn't mean you know how to write legal thrillers.

The topic and author no longer interest me, and I will not be finishing the book.
If you think Marcia Clark is just a defense attorney think again, she is also a brilliant writer. The story follows Samantha on her first big break case. Part of me hopes that this will get turned into a movie or mini-series. Thank you NetGalley for the PRC
Well written but slow in places. I enjoyed the story but felt it could have moved a little quicker in parts.
I love Clark's Rachel Knight series, so was happy to read this first book in the Samantha Brinkmann one. It was a good thriller that I really enjoyed. It kept me interested and had some twists and surprises along the way. I liked the main character, Samantha, and look forward to more of her.
A cracking pace, tight plot and plenty of action but far too many far-fetched coincidences and a grating use of first-person for my liking.
I love the pace of this book!! plus who wouldnt love to read a book by the woman who went against OJ!!!
This was a fast paced novel told from someone who has been there and seen it all. Marcia Clark has a quick wit about her and she is tough on the pages like In the court room. Excited to read the next installment
Enjoyable thriller which I read quickly. Enjoyed the writing style of the author and will look for more in the future.
This book is a great read. It was well written and it read quickly and easily. I read it over a weekend. This book is about Sam, acriminal defense attorney, she is trying to get a high profile case to ease her money problems. The case is a double murder of an actress and her roommate, the man charged with the murders is a LAPD detective. This book has a lot of twists, turns and more turns. It held my attention all the way through and left me wanting more. I admit that I originally picked the book because being familiar with the author and I am so glad I did. I am ordering copies to give to my mom and sister!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is the first in a new series by Marcia Clark, infamous as the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson trial. The main character in this book is Samantha Brinkman, a defense attorney, struggling to build up a small practice in LA.
A police detective is accused of a high-profile killing of an actress, whom he was dating, and her roommate. This is just the kind of case that Samantha and her associates hope will help build their clientele and get them out of the drug-infested neighborhood. Michelle is her childhood best friend and is her right-hand in the office. A new investigator, Alex, comes to the office with a dubious background.
I really liked this book - it moved quickly, I liked the characters and Samantha's dry wit, and things kept me guessing til the end. I'm excited to move on to Book #2 in this series!
I didn't even finish this book. I started it but it didn't hold my interest enough for me to finish it. The plot dragged and was uninteresting. Thank you for the opportunity to read this but I just was unable to finish it.
Such a good book!!
The characters are well written, the story flows well, it wraps up nicely and there was just the right amount of violence, courtroom action and character background.
Highly, highly recommended to just everyone!! I shall, hopefully, be picking up the 2nd book in this series soon, it's waiting patiently on my kindle as I type this.
This is the first book in a new series for this fantastic author. Samantha Brinkman is my new favorite legal hero. She is a ruthless defense attorney in a small firm of three attorneys. She is brilliant as she is ruthless in winning her cases. and seeks to increase her legal presence in criminal law. She takes on a new case, a double murder of a loved TV star in Los Angeles. . The case catapults her into fame and media attention. as the defendant is a well respected LAPD detective. . She soon finds out he is not who he seems and the mystery deepens and becomes dangerous for her and her firm. Samantha is a take charge protagonist, forging through clues on her own with bravado and spunk.. I love her witty repartee and her ability to find answers. She excels at finding the heart of the matter as only a good attorney can.
I loved this well crafted whodunit ! . One of my favorite Marcia Clark books by far. The author has a masterful writing style that captures this reader from page one until the end. Happy to say I lost a nights sleep and it was worth every page . Samantha is a brilliant legal eagle in the world of criminal defense and I look forward to many more in the fine series. I received a advance reading copy which did not influence my review. A wonderful read I highly recommend.
