Sport Romances are my biggest vice and I love them. Sawyer Bennett has delivered in this genre for me. This time around we have Hawke Therrien. As he's trying to make his way in hockey he can't get over his first love, Vale Campbell.
Vale broke his heart but she had to at that time. She needed to fix herself, she just went about it the wrong way.
I liked Vale and Hawke together. It was super sweet but I have to admit that Vale drove me a bit batty with her assumptions and running away. Anyone whom reads my reviews knows this is a big pet peeve of mine, because its way over done in fiction as well as real life. :)
I like a whole lot of what's happening in this book.
Hockey.
Second chance.
Hockey.
Yep. Those are some of my favorite things. And Vale and Hawke remind me why second chance is always a top trope for me.
Vale may have walked away from Hawke seven years ago, but when she walks back into his life she could never be prepared for the way she feels around him.
And this book brings the feels.
Which is exactly what I needed while reading.
Absolutely loved this installment in the series! Vale and Hawke were fantastic. I am a sucker for a second chance romance and this did not disappoint. Can't wait for the next!
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Can we start with this cover? Because holy heat Batman...
Okay, so Hawke is hockey player who had his heart broken by his high school sweetheart and is enjoying life as a pro athlete until Vale, the girl in question, shows back up as an athletic trainer. Together, the two have to overcome a lot of hurdles to get over the pain they caused each other. Can they make it work?
Hawke is so rough and tumble...such a macho man. And Vale, the reformed party girl, spends her time working two jobs and toeing the line. When they are brought back together, at first there's a lot of anger and resentment, but that quickly gives way to the fact that their relationship was never truly over.
Despite the testosterone flying around, this book had a lot of heart. Don't get me wrong, it had plenty of the heat we've come to expect from Bennett's Cold Fury books, but this one really had me emotionally invested.
Love these guys.

Forgiveness is sometimes really freakin’ hard…
I have to be honest; my heart felt pummeled after reading Hawke and Vale’s story. A wee bit battered and a whole lot bruised. It was also very happy. Lows, highs and everything in between, I felt each emotion with them…
Vale and Hawke were once the life of the party but something changed and suddenly the “it” couple was no more. Hawke followed his dream of playing hockey and Vale… Well, Vale struggled before finding her way. Suddenly finding themselves working for the same NHL team, they had an opportunity to clear the air and take it they did.
“…I need to figure out a way to live with all this shit that’s been stirred up.”
So much had changed yet the feelings they had for each other, clearly, had never died. Nothing like that to stoke the anger on both sides. Hawke felt he was the injured party and honestly didn’t understand Vale’s hostility. Coming from places of anger, and hurt, to a shared understanding, was painful and liberating and neither came out unscathed. This wasn’t a quick “all is forgiven” but, instead, was a peeling away of years and layers of misunderstanding, secrets and long-held emotion.
“…Hawke owns a piece of me that will never be touched by another man.”
Stories are at their best when emotions are high and the author invites us in and makes us feel we are there with the characters. Sawyer Bennett knows how to do that so well so don’t be surprised if you get lost in heated conversations, moments of tenderness and not-to-be-denied passion. Hockey and love, aka Cold Fury, has it all and Hawke and Vale showed why… Another great read in one of my favorite series!
Thanks Netgalley for a copy to read and review.
Book 5 in the Cold Fury Hockey series, can be read as a standalone. Man, I love this series. Hawke is hawt!!! Second chance romances are such fun. Hawke and Vale both have their own lives now but once again their lives become intertwined. Kismet?
Hawke.... play hard, party hard. He is welcomed onto the Cold Fury Hockey team and realizes Vale is also a joining member of the sports team as well. Years before she broke off a four year relationship without telling Hawke why. Now they're thrown together again and everything that happened years ago is bound to get out. I gave it four stars of entertainment. It was a little predictable but no less fun.
This is the fifth book in the Cold Fury Hockey series by Sawyer Bennett. Each of these books in this series can be read as a standalone. This is a great Hockey series that gives you everything you are looking for in a sports romance.
Hawke and Vale are no strangers. This is a second chance romance for them. Hawke and Vale dated when they were in high school and some in college. They were living the good life. Partying and drinking all the time. Hawke was about to live out his dream of playing Hockey and things were going good for them. The night before Hawke was to start on the NHL Hockey team, Vale left him. How could this happen when things were going so good for them?
Vale woke up and realized that she had to do something about her drinking and the way she was living because it was starting to scare her. She loved Hawke with everything she had but she knew she had to let him go in order to clean up her act.
Hawke has been traded to the Cold Fury Hockey team. He has no idea that Vale is working with the team now. Her father, whom she is really close to, has had to have some treatments and it was close to where the Cold Fury Hockey team is so she got a job with them. She knows that Hawke is going to be there but she is not sure how she is going to be able to handle seeing him again.
When Vale left Hawke, she gave him no explanation whatsoever as to why she was leaving. Now that seven years have passed, will they be able to get past this and move on or will it cause too many problems for them?
I love the chemistry between Hawke and Vale even after all these years. I was rooting for them the whole way. Sawyer Bennett gave us a great hockey story with lots of romance and a great second chance story. Well done!

I don't think you can beat this series for a sports romance, and this was another fantastic installment in the series. In this one, defenseman Hawke, is reunited with his former lover, Vale. Both were great characters, and I enjoyed their second chance romance. A wonderful addition to the Cold Fury Hockey Series!
