I have been a fan of Skip Hollandsworth's work from his articles in Texas Monthly. His writing style is straight and to the point, painting as complete as a picture he can in the word allotment given.
The problem is that he brought that format into this book. What ended up happening is that it came off as dry. LOADED with fascinating facts about an environment that fostered a serial killer, but still dry. Where I devour his articles, I found myself reading just the daily allotment for the day before putting the book down and moving onto the next required reading on my list. That surprised me heading into reading it. It had all the aspects I love, including a deep love of the state of Texas.
Will I read another book by him? Hell yes! Is he my favorite crime writer in books? No. Next time I will go into it with a different perspective and adjust to his writing style. This was my first "book read" of this author.
