After reading the synopsis for this book, no way was I not reading it.
A father and son shot, left wounded in the Hollows while the daughter, Abbey, is dragged away by her abductor.
A young woman, haunted by dreams and ghosts, paints her body with tattoos, slowly losing control of her gifts.
The Hollows, buried in winter snow, not giving up it’s secrets.
A mother struggling to stay sane, makes a last desperate attempt to find her daughter.
I enjoy it when a story pulls me in right from the beginning and the author did just that. I lost track of things going on around me and kept reading …. kept reading, until I was done.
The character’s are strongly developed and drive the story, and the plot is busy and exhilarating, reminding me of a dangerous winding road. You race around each bend, never knowing what waits in the road to send the story out of control.
A real page turner for anyone looking for a thriller with some suspense and horror, plus a bit of the paranormal thrown in.
A little paranormal, some sociopaths, family drama and crime/private investigators all weave together in this tale. Twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery has supernatural gifts that she is unable to control or really know what they are. Having gotten into trouble at home, she decides it is time to head to "The Hollows" to live with her grandmother and go to school there. Her grandmother will know how to help and guide her. Her boyfriend Rainer, follows her and even though she is trying to end their relationship, there is something pulling them together. Unfortunately for Finley, once she arrives, she starts to hear noises and see even more spirits. Her grandmother is not a lot of help as she just tells her to do what she feels is right and follow the images and feelings. Of course when the story opens, a young girl goes missing, so we know that is going to play into the story. Finley knows that she has to do something and when the missing girl hires the local PI, she steps in to help. She feels time is running out and that she must do something to help. Her grandmother, Eloise, is losing her strength and powers and is not sure what to do to help rid "The Hollows" of the menacing evil that seems to be lurking. Will they find the missing girl? What is the evil?
This was a gripping story with everything I like in a psychological thriller. There are multiple POVs, some interesting characters, good vs evil, and a strong but reluctant heroine. There were some things that happened that I expected, but several that came in a swift twisting conclusion. A good story and exactly what I have come to appreciate in Lisa Unger's writing. If you like a psychological thriller with a paranormal theme, then you will enjoy this book.
I was talking with a friend today about how hard it is to write a review about a book that you didn´t like.
Because someone took its time to write about something and for you just say it´s awful, It´s not the best feeling.
But to write about a book you loved it´s really easy, you almost can´t stop writing about it.
So, to make a long story short, I loved this book.
It´s a well written mistery with a well done twist to keep you alert and hooked to the story.
Lisa Unger has certainly become one of my fav authors.
Just not for me. I wanted it because there is a lot of good buzz about it. I never got connected, maybe it was because this was the first book by this author?
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book. I am just not interested in this book anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview this ARC of Ink and Bone.
Finley has a gift that never allows her to be alone. Just like the kids from Sixth Sense, she sees dead people. It's not exactly a gift that she's happy about, but she sees it as her responsibility to use it for good. Plus, she has a grandma with a similar ability to guide her.
Enter the Gleason family. After a violent attack on their family that resulted in the abduction of their daughter, Merri Gleason will stop at nothing to find her. She might not believe in psychics, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Finley joins the team in order to find the missing girl, and the clock is ticking.
I kind of faded in and out with this one. At times I was hooked and very invested in the family and characters, other times I was skimming through it, trying to get myself interested again. To be fair, this is not really my genre, I have never been interested in anything to do with psychics, but if you are, I think you would really enjoy this one.
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. Unfortunately, i was not a big fan of this book. I didn't enjoy reading it. Sorry.
I was so fascinated by the hollows I will be visiting this town again.
Where is Abbey......... Seriously I want to know she was not mention in the parade....
Time to look for more books by Lisa Unger
The Hollows gets what it wants, no matter what.
My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fantastic book! A few slow spots, but overall very well written. Highly recommended. (Amazon reviewed).
I didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did when I read the blurb. I thought it would go all Backwoods Physic on me.
Umm nevermind..that sounds right up my alley.
Finley has moved to "The Hollows" because she doesn't get along with her mom and her Grandmother has some of the same gifts that she does. Sorta see dead peopley. Finley is a pretty decent character..she has funky hair, drives a motorcycle, has tattoos all over. I liked her.
Her grandmother is usually the one that gets called in when a local PI needs some addition help but there is a case unfolding that her Gran says is Finley's.
The case is that a young girl was taken off a hiking trail. Her dad and brother were both shot and left for dead. But they took the girl.
Then you find out that several little blond girls have gone missing for years and none of them have ever been found.
The book is told from alternative viewpoints and I thought I knew what was gonna happen and I didn't. I kinda felt slammed for a minute there.
Then I snoop around and find out that Lisa Unger has more books set in this area. Color me interested. I'll read more of her. (I do think I read one of her's years ago and it was one of those romancy thrillers that I didn't care for. This was decent.)
I absolutely loved this book and, very unusually for me, I read it in two sittings. It's a ghost story, it's a detective story, it's a romance - and yet it seemed to be so much more. I'm only annoyed that it was on the 'to be read' pile for so long. I'd certainly look out for further titles by this author in the future.
Lisa Unger never disappoints! I enjoyed the development of Finley as she sets out to find her purpose.
I've enjoyed other Lisa Unger books, but this one just didn't work for me. I don't really like to read anything concerning child abuse so I'm sure that's why.
Ink and Bone was a satisfying read about Finley, a young psychic, learning to use her abilities. The Hollows where they live seems to be a magnet for supernatural events. Her grandmother is also a psychic and has used her abilities to help a PI solve cases involving missing persons and murderers. They both see dead people. Finley is drawn into a case involving a girl who was kidnapped in the mountains several months ago. Her brother and father were both wounded by a shooter during the abduction. When another disappears in the area Finley believes that the case is related. They may be on the trail of a serial killer..
I found the characters to be interesting and likeable. This is a book in a series, so some characters were not well developed in this part
I enjoyed this book. It was different and definitely made you want to know what happens next. I felt like it was a bit slow towards the middle of the book but having a supernatural storyline isn't always my favorite genre to read so it took me awhile to pick it up again once I arrived in the middle. Overall, I enjoy Lisa Unger's storytelling and ideas. Her characters draw you in and this was an entertaining read overall.
A different and interesting thriller. Great characters and scene setting.
I actually really enjoyed this book. Yes, there were problems with cliches and some parts were a bit clumsy, but on the whole the mystery was interesting.
This book is so intense. Mentally prepare yourself to be on a mental rollercoaster until the end...
