I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.
5 out of 5 stars!! Dane & Lucia (Luz) are in a unique situation. Dane’s mother and Lucia’s father are BOTH Presidential Candidates to become the next President of the United States. And because of a scandal at Lucia’s original college they are now attending the same college on volleyball scholarships. This forced proximity has Pros and Cons, which they end up dealing with along the way, but once Lucia’s true feelings come out for Dane both of their worlds change. Will it be a better change for everyone? That still remains to be seen ...
OMG!!! This novel held me RIVETED from the very beginning. I could not get enough of Lucia and Dane’s passion throughout this novel. They were passionate about everything! So passionate that it made them both quite reckless as they deal with Secret Services Agents, volleyball careers, “regular” college life, their own beliefs, their families beliefs, and the growing attraction between them. I LOVED how this novel handled everything, especially with both of Lucia and Dane’s issues** that come up because of the added pressure that is on both of them because of their parents are both trying to become President. WOW!
Their political banter. Lucia’s sweet blushes. How Lucia seems to be able to calm those around her. Dane’s snarky ways. Dane’s surprising sweet-side. That is just a few things I loved about this couple, but if I had to, I could definitely go on. The intensity that is between Lucia and Dane is off the charts hot. Yet, I so enjoyed how slowly they take their relationship BECAUSE of all the rocky things that are between them that could split them up so quickly. So sweet that I could not get enough and DID not want this novel to end. Yet I AM happy that this couple’s romance wrapped up within this novel because I would be sad to see anything else coming between them again.
Because of how this novel is based around a political race and because of how the political climate is right now, I ONLY recommend this awesomely intense novel to those who can be diplomatic and have no problem in reading about characters who could have differing viewpoints than your (the reader’s) own. While this novel does not throw its opinion at you from either side of the “political parties,” it does show you a different look at what might be happening “behind the party lines.” In addition, I feel to really enjoy both Dane, Lucia, and not get annoyed with their families; the readers need to have an open mind. If you do have an open mind THAN I feel, this novel is for those looking for a uniquely sweet contemporary sports romance.
**This novel talks about one of the character’s having an eating disorder so if that is a trigger for you this might not be the novel for you.
