One of my favorite feminist reads in past years. The 20-something hipster crowd may not be one I can relate to very well, but there is nothing I know better than women trying to change bodies/faces to fit an unrealistic standard. This is a fun, sexy and feminist read - loved it!
Really good book with a fun ending. I think anyone would enjoy it!
I hated this book it's been months since I've read it and I still makes me so angry
I read it because it was deemed a feminist book in the reviews so imagine my disappointment when this was a spectacularly regressive book
I have a full review on my blog discussing all the problems (basically all three of the female main characters) but I can't be bothered wasting my energy again here
No rating DNF at 25%
Unfortunately while I'm reading a book and I can't get into it by 20-25%, I have to dnf because of my reading schedule. The premise of this book sounded different and interesting but unfortunately I didn't like the characters at all and everything was so far fetched. This reminded me of Goldie Hawn's Death Becomes Her :(
This book has an interesting story and addictive quality to it, while pretty predictable plot-wise and messy characters. But it does pitched some good questions about how our society preceives and rewards beauty more than other things.
This book should be a must read for all young people moving to DC. I could personally relate to all of the different individuals. I must say the synopsis was a bit misleading on the sexual shenanigans, there was way less than led to believe. The book also drags at some points but it did wrap it up very nicely. It kind of just ended though with questions still in the air, but i'm eager to see if there is a follow up.
I can't believe I even finished this book. I kept thinking it would get better. That the story wouldn't be so ridiculous. That the characters wouldn't be so incredibly unlikeable. But the story got more ridiculous and the characters less likeable, which is hard to imagine. There are flashes of really good writing in this book, but the the idiotic girls featured in the idiotic storyline made it a chore to read. There was no one to root for in this novel. Every time I picked it up, I hoped I would finish it so I would never have to read it again. If this is supposed to empower 20-somethings, I shudder for our future.
