The Mother Road by Meghan Quinn
I'm beginning to wonder if Meghan Quinn and I are just not the right match. Her storylines always sound like exactly the book I want to read, but her humor just doesn't mesh with me. What's supposed to be funny is just over the top for me, and I find myself rolling my eyes and getting annoyed that there's no substance to the story. That's the case with this book. I loved the idea of a family road trip to honor the mother who had passed away. I loved the idea of a second chance romance with a little forced proximity. But it was just so silly, and that never changed for me. There was no depth, and I just got so tired of not thinking anything was funny. It's too bad, but I can see why people enjoy her books. If your sense of humor matches hers, you'll love her. I will always recommend a Meghan Quinn book to a patron who is looking for something light and fluffy.
The Mother Road was a rom-com road trip of a read with a family, plus one. A plus one who happened to be the one who hurt Marley, the MC years ago. Told in mostly alternating POVs this was story about being thrown together.
The humour in this read is very 'full on' which is either your thing or not. It was a bit blunt for my taste with lots of toilet humour and crass, at times on over kill. However, it did make me laugh and kept me mostly engaged.
I found this entertaining and easy but a little unsatisfying in ways.
Okay, okay. I finally sat down and read this and I am so mad I waited this long to do it! Holy moly, The Mother Road is a hilarious rom-com that only Meghan Quinn could pull off!
If you're in need of a laugh--and I mean a laugh out loud, tears streaming down your cheeks kind of laugh--then The Mother Road is what you are looking for.
Trust me.
Such a cute and unique story, that had me smiling the entire book.
