Since I failed to share the original review here, I am featuring the book with review again on my blog on Nov 30 at the following link; https://amomentwithmystee.blogspot.com/2023/11/bookreview-nobody-but-you.html
Jill Shalvis has once again proven herself as a master of contemporary romance with her enchanting novel, "Nobody But You." This heartwarming and delightful story captured my heart from the very first page and left me with a warm and satisfied feeling by the end.
Set in the charming town of Cedar Ridge, the book follows the story of Sophie Marren and Jacob Kincaid. Sophie is a fiercely independent woman who returns to her hometown with a secret, seeking solace and a fresh start. Jacob, a ruggedly handsome firefighter, has his own share of emotional baggage and a complicated past. Their paths intertwine in unexpected ways, leading to a beautiful and heartfelt romance that will make readers swoon.
One of the standout qualities of Shalvis's writing is her ability to craft multi-dimensional and relatable characters. Sophie and Jacob are wonderfully flawed and authentic, each carrying their own emotional burdens and fears. Their chemistry is palpable, and the slow-burning romance that develops between them is both tender and passionate. Shalvis expertly navigates their emotional journey, allowing readers to connect with the characters on a deep level.
The small-town setting of Cedar Ridge adds an extra layer of warmth and charm to the story. Shalvis vividly brings the town to life, painting a vivid picture of its picturesque beauty and vibrant community. The secondary characters, such as the Kincaid family and other residents of Cedar Ridge, are lovingly portrayed and add depth and richness to the narrative. Their presence enhances the sense of community and highlights the importance of family and friendship.
Shalvis's writing style is engaging and infused with humor, making the story a joy to read. The dialogue is witty and laced with banter, providing moments of levity amidst the more emotional and intense scenes. The pacing is well-balanced, with a perfect blend of heartwarming moments, sizzling romance, and a touch of suspense that keeps the reader engaged and invested throughout.
"Nobody But You" is a testament to Shalvis's talent for crafting compelling and emotionally resonant stories. It's a book that will make you laugh, swoon, and possibly shed a tear or two. It celebrates the transformative power of love, forgiveness, and second chances, leaving a lasting impression on readers.
Jill has once again created an absolute gem of a book that deserves all the praise it receives. Jill Shalvis has crafted a truly enchanting romance filled with memorable characters, heartfelt emotions, and a captivating small-town setting. It's a must-read for fans of contemporary romance and anyone looking for a heartwarming and uplifting story. Without a doubt, I award this book a well-deserved five-star rating and eagerly await Jill Shalvis's future works.
NOBODY BUT YOU by Jill Shalvis. Ms. Shalvis has again, written a heartwarming tale that is filled with fun and laughter, but also with some deep emotions for her characters. Sophie and Jacob's road is one that has it fair share of bumps but, as Ms. Shalvis loves to do, her characters grow and spread their wings and, as the reader, we get to cheer and laugh and even shed a tear or two. I recommend, not only this book, but the series as well.
This book has been on my must read list for months!
Nobody But You is the third book in the Cedar Ridge series and features Jacob Kincaid. Jacob is the twin of Hud, and has been MIA from his hometown and family since he was 18. On leave from the armed forces, he comes home to Cedar Ridge for some peace, quiet and healing, but he soon meets Sophie who is anything but quiet. Broke and living on a boat, she keeps showing up at Jacobs private dock to moor overnight, and the fun soon begins! After her nasty divorce and his tragic loss, neither is looking for love, but sometimes love has a way of find you when you least expect it.
This story is hot and sexy and full of romance that will keep you wanting more! I found myself falling in love with Jacob very early on in this book and I couldn't put it down. If you are a fan of fun, hot, laugh out loud romance, you definitely don't want to miss this book!
I received this book free for my honest review, all opinions are my own.
This is my first book in the Cedar Ridge series.. I am ordering the other two right now. This story is fast paced and full of broken souls blending together to become whole again. Jacob is back to make amends with his family. Sophie has nowhere to go and when the two of them meet sparks fly. A great read and can't wait to go back and read the first two in this series. I had stopped reading romance for awhile, however, this reminds me how much I love the genre. Jill Shalvis is a go to author.
Sandy M’s review of Nobody But You (Cedar Ridge, Book 3) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Grand Central Publishing 29 Mar 16
I can pick up a Jill Shalvis book any time, anywhere and know I will enjoy myself immensely, while going through every emotion imaginable. She’s a master a hooking readers to stay glued to her pages for hours or staying up way past bedtime. Her characters are those you’d like living next door to you, have flaws as well as big hearts, and you can’t wait to see what happens in their lives next.
And I know I will always fall in love with her heroes. Jacob is an Army vet, back home in Colorado after the hell of war and recent heartbreak. Add in the knowledge he has family to face, it’s all uphill for him. But those bridges he needs to build during this forced leave is interrupted by a fiery redhead who’s moored at his dock. Sophie, too, has had a time of it lately. She’s newly divorced and that boat she’s living on – due to the fact she’s got nothing else at the moment – is the one thing her ex really loved. Now she’s got it. Good for her! Especially since her family don’t have much faith in her anymore. A strong, determined woman is always a delight to read.
Jacob and Sophie are perfect together. From first meeting to the end, they slowly come to trust and rely on each other, though I do love some good banter between characters, and that’s another aspect of writing Ms. Shalvis excels at – right up there with Julia Quinn, Lorelei James, and Jo Goodman, to name a few. I also really like the family aspect for Jacob, a few tense and emotional moments that bring a tear to the eye.
This is the third book in the series, and I didn’t care one bit. I usually like to read series in order, but that’s definitely not required here. Jacob and Sophie will steal your heart and wrap it around theirs in no time at all.
Grade: A
As always I enjoyed this book and really any book this author has written. This book was well written and tied into the other books in the series well.
Book 3 in the Cedar Ridge series. We already know Jacob's history by reading the other 2 books. Even absent he was a factor in those stories. But if this is your first Cedar Ridge story, you get enough of the background story to not be lost.
Jacob is active military on bereavement leave. Sophie is a fighter but feeling a bit blue after a not-so-happy childhood combined with a not-so-happy marriage that ended in divorce. But hey...she got the boat.
These two come together with that wonderful magic that flows from Jill's fingers. You are going to laugh, probably slap your forehead....but overall, you are going to love this book.
Always love a Jill Shalvis book and this one doesn't disappoint. It's been a great series.
FTC : I got this for an honest review from NetGalley. I requested it because I have a severe and inexplicable obsession with Jill Shalvis.

What I liked
I like Jill Shalvis. The best way I can describe her writing is charming; her books are light, funny and give you that marshmallow feeling at the end. Would I say they are predictable? Yeah, but I’m OK with that. There isn’t much angst in these books, and most of the internal/external conflicts are easily resolved, but that is part of their charm. You walk into these books knowing they will make you feel good.
Jacob is a great character to read. He’s sexy, funny and has a soft centre that he attempts to keep well hidden. He comes back into this world he has isolated himself from and tries to see how and where he fits so many years later. Now, for me, Jacob’s story could have been far more angsty (he joined the army at 18 never to be seen again, he has distanced himself from his twin brother and he has some serious PTSD causing stories from combat) but this is a Jill Shalvis novel so the novel only glances off the surface of this whole story because light is the aim of the game. I think that would be my only complaint; The back-story that is chosen for Jacob is actually quite dark and it wasn’t really explored in any depth.
Sophie is awesome. I loved the way she made sure she got her revenge on her ex, I loved the way she fought so hard throughout the book to keep herself afloat and I loved her snark. Seriously, she was an amazing heroine. Her conversations with Lucas were hilarious and I enjoyed the slightly slap-stick scenes between her and Lucas’s many mistresses.
Sophie and Jacob’s romance was very cute to read and I loved that the way they both bring something to the relationship that the other needs. Jill Shalvis writes great romantic scenes and this is littered with them which is why I have read it so many darn times. She has also really has gone big on the comedic dialogue on this book, ensuring I had a smile on my face throughout.
What I didn’t Like
There actually were a couple of things that didn’t sit well within this book for me. As I say, the lack of exploration of Jacob’s back story was a bit of a miss for me but there were a few other things that fell flat.
I felt that the way that the family conflict was resolved was way too easy. I know if I’d have done what Jacob did, I’d be hearing it from my siblings all day everyday for a very long time. Hurt feelings take a long time to heal but there wasn’t really the exploration here that would lead me to believe in the resolution. It took something away from Hud’s story too as I just didn’t believe the way his character dealt with it in this book reflected the depiction of him we got in his book.
I also struggled with Brenna’s story in this because it was so random. It felt so unfinished and just didn’t fit in the flow of the story for me and I ended up skipping through those scenes in my reread. However, the biggest issue I had was with Lucas and his amazing 180. I was left scratching my head at that one; we all know I hate things that are slapdash and that felt like Ms Shalvis wanted to tie off this story and put a bow on it and so gave it no thought.
Overall, a solid read that I have read again and again.
After reading Second Chance Summer (book 1) and My Kind of Wonderful (book 2) I was very curious about Jacob Kincaid, the missing Kincaid sibling and twin brother to Hudson (the hero in MKoW). We finally get to meet him in Nobody But You.
Jacob Kincaid is back in Cedar Ridge, but he didn't quite know how to face his half-siblings and especially his twin brother Hudson who he had a huge fight with before leaving town nine years ago. Sophie Marren is recently divorced and living in a boat that used to belong to her ex-husband. She was miserable, seasick, and broke. The last thing she needed was some hot, sexy alpha telling her that she couldn't park moor her boat on his dock.
There was insta-attraction between Jacob and Sophie, but neither were looking for a relationship. They decided that while Jacob was in town, they do a friends-with-benefits kind of thing. But Jacob found in Sophie someone light, funny, and saw the glass half-full--his opposite in a way because he's currently in a dark place. Sophie, who her family always saw as flighty, found in Jacob someone who believed in her and saw her strength and how hard she worked. I loved how well-matched Jacob and Sophie were and how they really complimented each other. They definitely had chemistry. One of my favorite scenes was when they were drinking scotch and playing three truths and a lie, and I wish we had a little more of those kind of playful yet intimate scenes early on because I felt that most of their scenes before the 60% mark felt a little too hurried, with Sophie often running off to one of her temp jobs or driving her boat elsewhere, with Jacob wondering where she moored her boat for the night.
Like in the first two Cedar Ridge novels, my favorite scenes involved the Kincaid clan, and we got to see the siblings in action here, bickering, giving each other a hard time, and loving and supporting each other. I love all of the scenes between them, especially all of the siblings were in the same room. I also loved Hudson and Jacob's scenes with their mom Carrie, who had dementia and thinks her fully grown sons were still young boys. Of course, there was tension between Jacob and Hudson--what Jacob did was not something easily forgiven and forgotten and after reading Hudson's book I saw where he was coming from. But, I felt sorry for Jacob, who felt like an outsider in his own family.
Jacob and Sophie had some issues to work out that added conflict to the plot but ultimately in terms of character and plot, Nobody But You was very predictable, but that's absolutely fine with me. I wanted an uncomplicated contemporary romance that is well-written, that I can read over the weekend, and that will leave me happy and satisfied and Jill Shalvis did not disappoint. Nobody But You was a comfort read--it had everything I love in a contemporary romance: a small town setting, a likable heroine, an alpha hero, family shenanigans, funny one-liners, and just the right amount smexyness. Sometimes you need that kind of easy, light, fun read, and that is exactly what I got with Nobody But You.
Jill Shalvis does it again. I will read anything this woman writes. Although I am bummed that it seems we aren't getting Kenna's book? I've been wanting Jenna and Mitch's story since the beginning.
