Thank you for the arc, unfortunately I did not finish it, I just wasn't the right audience for this book.
This was a good sequel, sadly I did not love it.. I will not be continuing on with the rest of the series.
3.5 stars for an ending that bolsters the next book and gives more meaning to the last one, but there were long sections in the early part of the novel that felt redundant.
I do love this series and this author and this take on the future. Read it!!
I received a free copy from NetGalley. It is really long and starts slow. I do NOT recommend if you have not read the first one. Too much of the character and plot development depend on understanding and knowing what happened in that book and it doesn't lay out the world well if you don't already know it from the first book. Enough of the new major issues are tied up by the end that you could stop reading after this book. Several of the minor untied issues from the first are now filled out and finished in this one as well.
Sadly this book was archived before I could download to read it. It has been added to my TBR and I’ll keep an eye out for it again in the future or at my local library.
The Map of Bones continues after The Fire Sermon and answers a lot of questions I had from the first book. I liked this sequel more than the first book I guess because we dive deeper into the world and find out answers we've been wondering about, and left us wanting and simultaneously anxious for how the trilogy will end.
I did not realise this was the second book. I do apologise! So it would be unfair for me to review this title and I do apologise as I love to chance to read these amazing titles. I will purchase the first book and read it then move onto this one.
**I received the novel in 2015 and was not able to finish reading**
I will give my own feedback on my own terms outside of NetGalley due to archive.
I couldn't wait to get my hands on the follow up in the Fire Sermon Trilogy. This world easily parallels our own, including the prejudices and anxieties that we face day to day.
The book is dark, and Cass, the main character, has to deal with survivor's guilt -- while this is realistic, it often felt like it was slightly over done. Otherwise, great set up for the next story.
Such an interesting concept. Totally something I'd recommend to my students.
I loved this book — although it was definitely harder to find my way into the story than the FIRE SERMON. Probably mostly the curse of the sequel and not anything to do with this tale's quality. Definitely a solid followup and continuation of the trilogy!
Fantastic read! I love the concept, the writing style, and the character development of the book.
I loved 'Fire Sermon' the first book in this series, and passed it on as a recommendation to all of my friends, but I have to say that this book did not capture me in quite the same way. I still loved parts of the story, such as the battle, and Cass' story and growth. However I found that it was just quite slow in some parts, especially the beginning and that lost me a bit. I am looking forward to the next book in the series though, as there is a lot left yet to learn!
I've had a copy of this book for a very long time now. When I read it's prequel, The Fire Sermon, it really didn't meet my expectations. It was slow and had this sort of hopeless vibe to it that I couldn't get over. After reading some trusted reviews on Goodreads, however, that said that Map Of Bones was a lot better than its prequel, I decided to try it.
I was ecstatic when I was approved on NetGalley, and the reason I've struggled with this for the longest time is that I WANTED to fall in love with this series, but I couldn't even get past the first dozen chapters.
The Map Of Bones only succeeded in bringing back the feelings I felt years ago when I read The Fire Sermon, and after a long time, I've decided to DNF it.
I'm sorry, but this book just wasn't for me.
