A small boy, horribly assaulted in a small town. People jumping to conclusions and being judgmental for the simple reason because the boy's father is a homosexual, living with his partner. No one really comes out well in this book which has more than it's fair share of nasty, old fashioned, unpleasant people. Plenty of sympathy for little Jason, but not too much for most of the others.
