Hamilton is quickly becoming an absolute must-read author for crime and thriller fans. Although this is only the second book in his series starring Van Shaw (following the outstanding PAST CRIMES, which won multiple awards), he shows a maturity and balance to his writing. There is no sophomore slump here.

Hamilton writes really well-balanced thrillers, which blend page-turning plotlines with fascinating, memorable characters, good action, and a great sense of place. He sprinkles the narrative with fresh description, has a great turn of phrase, and overall just keeps the reader engaged on multiple levels. This is a very good tale in an outstanding series. I look forward to more from Hamilton.
