Well written and Enjoyable
I found the story to be a well crafted. It took me about 30% to become truly invested in the story. Bran and Maddy were a cute couple. I loved how they used movie lines to communicate. The Epilogue was sweet and wrapped up the story nicely. The next book in the series is about Mason and Alex and this book sets them up well.

Edge of your seat reading from the beginning until the end. So many twists and turns in the story that you will be hooked until the end. Interesting and complex characters to follow along on this adventure. Good read.

My ongoing quest to read more contemporary romance to get out of my Regency Romance rut continues with the second in Julie Ann Walker's Deep Six series. Very, very steamy with lots of fast-paced action. It also has a nautical element that I am all about!

I have read a lot of books by this author in the past and have enjoyed them immensely. This is book 2 of the series and I don't feel I missed much not having read the first book (I will be reading it at some point). Madison / Maddy is an oil heiress who has an ongoing e-mail relationship with Bran. Bran is part of a deep diving crew looking to find a long buried treasure. Through her charitable work Maddy finds herself close to where Bran is stationed and invites him to come see her. Bran goes to see her, unknowing that he is to enter a battlefield where Maddy is in the middle of a kidnap attempt. The dialogue between them is corny and unexpected from this author. The beginning was dragging for me, hence why it took so long to read. The action picks up about a third way into the book and from there it is non-stop.
I received a copy of this book free of charge from NetGalley. All views and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for introducing me to a new series. Although I didn't quite like this book, I am interested to read more of the series and hope Alex and Mason have their.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Devil and the Deep is the second book in the adult suspense series Deep Six by Julie Ann Walker. This is the first book in the series that I have read, and while they can each be read as standalones, I found myself wishing that I had read this series in order. So if you are able to, I would probably suggest reading book one first before diving into Devil and the Deep. Not because I was overly confused while reading, but because I felt like there was some more foundation details giving about the Deep Six team.
In Devil and the Deep we meet our main characters Maddy and Alex. Here's my biggest issue with this book. This is a total its not you, it's me moment, but I didn't love the characters. I don't really know why. They were well written, the story flowed really well and I loved their sexual tension and banter, but they just both irked me. I enjoyed the overall story, and I loved Julie Ann Walker's writing, but because I was a little irritated with Maddy and Alex, there was a weird undercurrent running throughout the book for me, And because of that, I never really got invested in them or their particular story. I think I should pick up another book in the series because I think I would enjoy that more. But this one just wasn't really for me.
Plot driven readers and fans of the first book may really enjoy this one. The writing is great and it has a very solid plot.

This was a good escape book and I liked the storyline. It was a little unrealistic and cheesy at times but overall a good read.
Many thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were very believable, if not kinda corny/cheese at times. I love the sexual tension that started in book 1 between Bran and Maddy and that he'd do anything to keep her safe. This book is action filled with a few twist that hold your attention and makes you want to keep reading. The side characters in this book as make it an interesting read.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book and to be an early reader via NetGalley! However, I will not be writing a review for this title at this time, as my reading preferences have since changed somewhat. In the event that I decide to review the book in the future, I will make sure to purchase a copy for myself or borrow it from a library. Once again, thank you so much for providing me with early access to this title. I truly appreciate it. Please feel free to contact me with any follow-up questions or concerns.

This book as an interesting premise and a promising beginning, unfortunately I found it hard to stay interested and I struggled to finish it. The relationship between the two main characters aren't convincing enough, I found their chemistry lacking. It didn't help that I don't quite care about Maddy, I do find her annoying at times. Bran is more likeable and his backstory was done pretty well. In the end, this book is quite disappointing and I usually enjoyed Julie Ann Walker's books.

I'm wavering between 2.5 and 3 stars for this. While I enjoyed it - Julie Ann Walker does a fantastic job with action and writes characters that you connect with easily, I felt it was a little cheesy with all the pop references and quotes. I mean, come on, our bug bad ex-Navy SEAL was quoting movies while in a gun battle. That didn't work for me.
On another up note, I went back and forth between the audio and reading and I thought the narration was great!

I never really clicked with the H&H of this one. Too much meet cute, and not enough plot!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Retired SEALs looking for a shipwrecks treasures. An oil heiress in danger on a remote island. Crossings paths again, Bran and Maddy can’t deny the sizzling chemistry between them.

First off I’d like to thank Netgalley, the author and of course the publisher, for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Where to start! I have to admit this just wasn’t my cup of tea. It was so slow the first part of the book, that I wanted to quit reading it, but I kept going thinking it would get better. Some of it did, some of it didn’t. I think what I really didn’t care for was the main characters, Maddie and Bran. I really couldn’t connect with them; at times their dialog I felt was a joke, however Maddie did at times did have some hilarious dialogue, but it was few and far between.
There is another couple I liked well in the book, Alex and Mason, I did connect with those two better than I did Maddie and Bran. Alex is a riot, and she loves playing hard to get. All the while Mason is chasing after her. I really think Alex and Mason should get their own story, and I hope they do.
I’m sad this one wasn’t up my alley, but I’m willing to read this author again

Action, humor and chemistry -- what more could you ask for? Julia Ann Walker pens a fast paced read of military suspense. The characters are likable and there's lots of action to keep you turning the page.

This is the second book in the Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker. I haven't read the first one, but I was able to keep up with this story without any issues. We meet Maddie from the first book and her savior, Bran. I love the chemistry between these two and you will too. Maddie decides to go to an island near where Bran is and everything does not turn out the way it's supposed to. Someone is after Maddie again and it's up to Bran to make sure she turns out okay. Those who love military romance, great characters, story, and happily ever after will love this book.

This was a DNF for me. The writing just didn’t connect with me. I love the premise, but the writing is just trying to be too comical for me. I struggled to get past the first few chapters. I skimmed for a bit, and then just read the end. So, this isn’t for me, but I’m sure it’s fine for others.

This is the second book in the Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker. I have to admit I have not read the first one, but I was able to keep up with this story no problem.
Maddie has the worst luck. In the first book someone was after her trying to kidnap her and now someone is after her again in this book. Bran was the one that helped her in the last book and he is back to help her out again. Bran and Maddie have kept in touch through email and now she has set up a field trip to one of the islands that Bran is near. Maddie invites Bran to be a guest speaker on his treasure hunting.
Nothing goes as planned when they get to the island. Maddie is supposed to be kidnapped and held for ransom. When they get on the island, they hear gunfire and Bran, being an ex-navy SEAL, immediately goes into rescue mode.
Sparks begin to fly between Bran and Maddie but Bran is still hesitant to call it a relationship. I loved the way that Bran had a quote for everything. I think this was a good read and I look forward to more in this series from Julie Ann Walker.

Who doesn't love a military man? This book delivers action, romance and hot sweats in equal measure. If you love SEALS, danger and romance, you will not be disappointed by this one!

There's always something familiar-seeming about Walker's books, but they're adventurous and enjoyable. I loved the Caribbean setting, and the moxie of Maddy Powers.
