Book 5 of 2019: The New Guy (And Other Senior Year Mistakes) by Amy Spalding.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Friends, when it comes to @thatames books I am ride or die. And now I only have one book and a novella left to read 😭

This book follows Jules McAllister-Morgan who is the ultimate type A and I love her for it. Anyways she’s in her senior year and gets the job of editor at her school newspaper, the Crest. This would be awesome, except this brand new - new media launches called Talon. What results is drama and pranks and I am so here for it.

Oh and of course there’s also a new guy who was in a boy band but is now interested in Julia who was his new student ambassador. But then he betrays her. Drama y’all. Drama.

This book is funny. It is compelling. The characterization is right where I need it to be (where growth happens and no one is all good or all bad). I just really enjoyed my time with this book.

Within the first few chapters, the main character annoyed me so much that I wanted to just stop. But I decided to continue on because I thought surely there must be a point where she learns from her behavior. She just seemed like she had a giant stick up her butt and everything in her life needed to be absolutely perfect. And the high school drama was just so over the top. When she starts hanging out with Alex, she started to loosen up a bit and I started enjoying the story more. Overall I just did not enjoy this story as much as I would have liked. There was nothing special about this book

This was such a good book pick to take a break from all the paranormal and dark YA's i've been reading lately. I needed something light and fun, and this was it. It is Jules senior year and on top of her normal worries, she is now trying to figure out her first relationship. It was so nice to deal with normal, mundane problems. I found Jules character to be very relatable and very well written. From the description you would think that this book would be all about the romance, but really it was about Jules learning that sometimes you will make mistakes and it is ok. Sometimes you need to reorganize your priorities and that is also ok. And, sometimes you need realize that no matter what, your friends and family will always love you. I definitely recommend picking this one up!

It's senior year for Jules and so far everything goes as planned, as she is the editor of the school newspaper, something she truly wanted to achieves as she wants to major in journalism in college.Everything goes well until Alex, a former famous band member walks into her high school, and into her life, and half of the school newspaper staff walks of to TALON, the school's new TV announcement program, which turns into a battle between the two sides.Just when things could not get worse, there is a romance to worry about, impressing her teachers for good letters of recommendation, and friendship-related issues that she needs to keep in mind in order to save her friendship with her best friend...

This was an okay, nice read. I didn't found it the most original one though, and I could totally see what was coming next. But beside that, it put a smile on my face when I was reading it, as the romance part was very cute. The battle going on between the newspaper and TALON, with people walking over and cheating was a little childish at some points, if Jules is so commited to make it to Brown university, this was a little odd.
But further on, it is a nice escape read for a few hours, nothing groundbreaking, but just cute.

In The New Guy (And other Senior Year Distractions) by Amy Spalding, Jules McAllister-Morgan is a type-A personality with high expectations for her senior year. She plans on being the editor for the school newspaper and has everything going for her until new boy, Alex Powell former Chaos 4 All boy bander, comes to school. Alex and Jules' relationship takes a romantic turn until Alex betrays Jules. I enjoyed getting to know Jules and her friends, especially her friend Sadie who is very blunt and likeable. Jules’s moms are fun and they love to tease Jules about her liking Alex. The relationship between Jules and Alex is adorable and cute. The New Guy was a very fun read.
