Very well researched and written. Not for historical-beginners, though. This writing is dense and might be hard for newbs to get into. But if you like hard-core history, this is a great book that explores a rarely discussed era. Good times.

I read this book twice through. It is THAT good. One of my very favorite time periods is the Tudor Era, specifically the Elizabethan Era. She was a magnificent queen, and I was absolutely thrilled to be given the opportunity to read this book. The author gives you a brilliant understanding of the politics surrounding Elizabeth's reign and introduces you to the woman behind the myth. This book absolutely deserves to be referred to as a "definitive" work.
