Riley and her daughter wait on the dock for a no-show husband who ends up murdered.past mystery and part drama, this was a fun read.

Light and fun summer read with a bit of mystery. I love Andrews' books for their lighthearted feel. Although this is pretty predictable, sometimes you just need that for a beach read.

I always enjoy a summer reads, especially if it involves a new hook from Andrews. This particular title was not one of her best, the characters were hard to like and her usual wit was missing. I lol forward to the next book, thank you.

This book was totally not what I was expecting from this author. This is the first book that I have read from this author. I thought that this would be more like a Miss Julia book, I was wrong. However, this book did not disappoint. I was very intrigued by the main character and her relationships with the other characters. I wanted to kill the daughter, man she was a tool. The romance was nice and steamy and the "who done it" was interesting as well. My thoughts on who was the murderer kept shifting as i read more information, the true murderer was a big surprise for me. I think that I would read another book from this author in a heartbeat. The author captures the true essence of a southern lady.

I am not sure how to classify this book. I guess it is chick-lit, but it is also family drama as well as a murder mystery. Riley Griggs has her life turned upside down. In the past year her daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and she and her husband are getting a divorce. She has sold her house as she knows finances are tough, but she has no idea. When she and her daughter Maggy arrive at the Summer Home, it is locked up tight with a foreclosure notice on the door. That is just the tip of the iceburg. When her husband, Wendell, does not show up on Belle Isle as promised, she assumes he is ducking his responsibilities once again. When he does not answer Maggy's calls or texts, they grow a bit concerned. When Wendell's body is found in the marina and it is determined that he was murdered, the story gets interesting. Who killed him and why? What does Riley's family have to do with everything? Who else was involved in the bad investments? Was Wendell having an affair?

We meet Riley's family, her mother Evelyn, her Aunt Roo, and her brother Billy. Billy is married to Scott and has always been a bit of an outsider. He is a musician and an alcoholic. The family is basically living off trust funds that were left by Riley's father and grandfather. When she finds out that she is broke, she is not sure what to do. Maggy is a bit much even with what she is going through. She says some terrible things to her mother that should not have been tolerated, I don't care if her father just died. Thankfully, she changes by the end of the story. Billy is a typical alcoholic some of the time. He knows it, but doesn't seem to have the willpower to end it. He is usually pretty good around his niece, but as the story progresses, he seems to not care anymore. He also has a huge secret. Nate Milas, an old friend of Riley's seems to be a saint. He is patient and understanding and puts up with a lot of crap from Riley and Maggy. I don't know how he does it, but seems to win the family over, even though he did not come from "old money". This was one of the most dysfunctional families I have read about in a long time. I was glad to see the bright spots in their relationships. Riley's friend Parrish is the bright light. She did not want to get involved in Riley's schemes, but usually was convinced. She stuck by her side like a loyal friend should and pulled her butt out of the fire a few times.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The beginning was a bit slow for me, but once I got into it, I flew through it, if only to find out who actually killed Wendell and why. If you enjoy family drama geared to women, this is a book for you.

Typically I devour anything by Mary Kay Andrews, however, something about The Weekenders just didn't click with me - which was primarily because of the god-awful, horrible daughter. I tried to like the main character Riley or at least find likable things about her, but I just couldn't. I finished it, but it was oh so painful.

It is almost unfair of me to give this review as Mary Kay Andrews is one of my all time favorite authors! She scored again with The Weekender's. This is a perfect vacation read or even if you can't get to a beach you will feel like you are at one when you dive into this book. You will feel like your part of the family and don't want the book to end. I loved it!

While I mostly enjoyed this book, it is my least favorite by Andrews. I didn't connect as well with the story or characters as I have with her others. It was still a light, enjoyable read.

Mary Kay Andrews is always a part of my summer reading list. This wasn't one of my favorites, however. I like a good mystery, but the mystery element here felt like a reach.

For fans of Mary Kay Andrews, this will be a solid beachy or summer read, though a little long. While I know she was struggling with the death of her father and her health, the behavior of the daughter, Maggy, was insufferable, and Riley and Nate's relationship was somewhat frustrating. However, I did find myself rooting for Riley and the Nolan family throughout, despite their flaws.

Entertaining and fun to read. Liked the characters and story flow. Mystery and intrigue abound in this page turner. Could not put it down! Good read. Would recommend!

The Weekenders was not my first Mary Kay Andrews and it won't be my last. She has a way of writing a gripping story that oftentimes pulls you in and plays in your head like your favorite Lifetime/Hallmark Movie combo. I couldn't get enough! This is a perfect read for the beach, or for wishing you were by the beach in the dead of winter!
