Enjoyable, but I did not find hero likeable. He seems one-dimensional and always on the edge. There is a perfectly acceptable reason for this, but, for me, it is a little one-note and over the top. His inner dialogue becomes tedious and it's drags the pace of the story. I did like Bria to a certain extent. I understand her need to exert her independence after being sequestered for so long. Her story highlight of the book.

Bria lives in her uncle’s compound, being protected from a witch. Now that she’s grown, the protection she’s been under is stifling and her uncle is forced to go to the vampires in search of help. He is an ass. Aristocratic dhampir who is very against dhampirs becoming vampires. Bria can’t stand being caged and held back by her uncle any longer and escapes as often as she can.

Jenner seems to be hanging onto sanity by a thread. He’s getting his job done, but his urges are threatening to take over and he wonders if this was the life he really anticipated. Meeting Bria really throws him and his protectiveness causes some issues.

I really liked Bria’s character. She’s spunky and independent. A great challenge for Jenner and he really needed that in his life. He needed a focus, although his feelings for Bria overwhelm him and make his job difficult.

The Dark Vampire gives us some great adventure in dealing with Bria’s witch. However, I also really enjoyed seeing all of the other characters and how their lives are continuing on. Mikhail, Ronan and Jenner have a lot of politics to deal with, as well as side issues that need to be controlled to portray vampirism as a positively as possible. I’m really curious about Vanessa and her abilities. Wondering just how she is going to fit in.

So many ups and downs in The Dark Vampire, and such an enjoyable ride it was. I was left smiling and satisfied with all the goodness wrapped up in this book. I look forward to The Untamed Vampire, with it’s couple and the continuation of Mikhail rebuilding the race of vampires.
