A rollicking adventure with bold bright colors! Can't wait for the next one.
The characters reminded me of Muppets - more specifically, of Fraggle Rock - and loved their fun, bold colors and unique shapes. But I found the story a little less exciting that I had hoped. Giants attack their boat and eat many of the crew! How will they escape?? Oh, just befriend these mysteriously impervious creatures and hang out with them instead. Their voyage was to explore and record the flora and fauna of an unknown island, and they do just that for the latter portion of the book...not all that exciting. And it was never explained *how* they were going to leave the island when they had no boat and needed to get past the giants...
On the other hand, it did set up a lot of drama for future installments, so I can hope that the rest of this series gets more exciting...and I am intrigued enough to continue with it!
One last comment - I also had concern about Quirk's travel log written in cursive...if this is geared towards today's children who are not learning cursive in schools anymore, how will they read those parts??
