In order to understand this book I think there are two starting points to consider. Firstly it was an analysis of the world, culture and media, created at the point that the walking dead dead had just shown season one in 2010, it followed a revitalisation of the Zombie mythos that had been building over the previous decade. Secondly its analysis of the way that the mythos had been entangled in graphic novels, media, and film.
Taking those things into account the college students studying graphic art, media and film studies, will find this an extremely useful item. As a Zombie fan I didn't find it as interesting a read as many other people with a less detailed interest would have done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this illuminating collection of essays exploring the phenomenon of The Walking Dead franchise. Originally published in 2011, it retains its relevance, even as it appears the TV series is straying farther from the original comic book series. The unique perspectives and varying viewpoints bring great insight into the vast subjects and meanings below the surface of the wildly popular series.

Zombies? Yes. Horror? Yes. Commentary on society? Most definitely. The Walking Dead offers so much more than shock and horror. I'm so glad I gave the series a chance. These essays really help give an even clear perspective into the wealth of philosophy that make The Walking Dead far more than entertainment.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
