Demand is the second installment in the « Careless Whispers » series, a spin-off of the « Inside Out » series. Lisa Renee Jones weaves layers upon layers of mystery in this fast paced and riveting romantic suspense that picks up where Denial left off.
Ella was mugged and suffers from extensive memory loss caused by a head injury. She doesn’t recall anything, not even her name. At her side in her hospital room, she finds Kayden Wilkens, the powerful and wealthy leader of the Underground, a dangerous organization whose activities border on legality and are connected to the mob. Ella doesn’t’ know much about him, but she has decided to trust him, even if she is completely at his mercy. Kayden is bossy, protective and intends to help her find the answers she needs. Their relationship is based on a strong emotional connection, but Ella doesn’t know what the future holds for them. Kayden is an intriguing character. He is an irresistible combination of tenderness and danger.

Ella’s memories are slowly returning and she is convinced that an ancient necklace, worth a large fortune, is a key to the mystery. As it happens, the Italian and French mafias are looking for it. Ella is still suppressing memories of things she can’t handle or could endanger her relationship with Kayden. She is conflicted, though and wants to face her past, exposing herself to triggers. She is still very confused and questions her past connections to several mafia bosses.

This story had a general atmosphere of deceit, danger and secrets that I enjoyed. I found that the writing style of Ms. Jones was utterly addictive. This book ends with a bang and we are left with many questions unanswered! I can’t wait to get all the answers in the final installment in this captivating series, “Surrender”.

An advance copy of this book was provided by the publisher, via NetGalley.

We get more pieces to the puzzle and meet more characters in this book. I kind of wish I had read the Inside Out series now to get a little bit of the background but it’s not necessary to have read it to enjoy this series. We get a surprise visit from one of the Walker brothers as well.

There are twists and turns throughout the entire book and of course we get a cliffhanger to tease us for book 3. I really like both characters a bit more in this book as they uncover and learn more about each other. There are still several unanswered questions and hints about more mysteries to be uncovered.

We meet a few new characters and there is thankfully a character list at the beginning of the book to help keep them all straight.

I’m anxious to dive into book 3 to see how this all plays out and if there is a possibility of another spin off or if everything is answered here.

Title: Demand
Author: Lisa Renee Jones

5+ smashing stars

Do amazing things come in twos and threes? It would seem that with Lisa Renee Jones' Denial series, it does. I'm not sure how that was possible, but Demand was even better than Denial, and that's saying a lot considering that all my spare time was spent reading. It took me less than a day to finish Demand because it was that entrancing and suspenseful. I HAD to know what this power couple was going through and the update on Ella's memory recovery on whether or not she's finally found out who HE is. That elusive man that us casting such a deep and long shadow over their heads since it would seem that he keeps popping up when things are going well between Ella and Kayden. Only, after finding out, I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse (and no, I'm not about to unravel that important tidbit of information). Finally getting to know more about who, what and where Ella (is from) just solidified my belief that she is the perfect woman to stand by Kayden's side as the Hawk's woman and mate.

4 breathtaking dreams

No matter what new memory is uncovered, it will always astound me on just how their bond strengthens - even if Ella is scared of the outcome of finally unlocking all of her memories, never does Kayden's faith in their ability to face everything together waver. Of course there are times when Ella is afraid of the unknown, but once she faces those small demons, it becomes clear on why she managed to survive everything HE put her through. I loved how we find out little by little the secrets that Ella keeps hidden rather than in one huge pile within a few days. I enjoyed watching Ella become the woman that she was meant to become, flourishing under Kayden's protection. And even more so, I was captivated by the changes that Kayden undergoes from being the cold hearted man who would act before thinking, closing off his emotions to all to becoming the man that would do anything and everything in his power to protect the woman that he has fallen head over heels for. I'm certain that the last instalment of this series will be unlocking so many other secrets that will have me gaping and thoroughly surprised, wanting to know more about the author behind the storyline.

“Then let me say this to this new feminist side of you. You own me in ways I do not want to be owned, and should not be owned as The Hawk of The Underground.

In this second instalment of the Careless Whispers Series , Ella is still struggling with amnesia. Her flashbacks are more frequent and she soon realises that she is part of something big, but what is it? The only constant in her life is Kayden... While their hunger for each other grows with each moment, their bond becomes stronger. Every time that they share a memory or a moment, they also peeled away a layer of themselves- some heartbreaking, some sweet and some poignant.

Lisa Renée Jones has written another intriguing and fascinating story- in Demand , the steamy romance between Kayden and Ella is laced with excitement, emotion and apprehension.
It is a hell of a ride full of deep emotion, scorching scenes and suspense.
