Boys of Summer is the story of three friends who are spending the summer together every year on a tiny island. Grayson, Mike and Ian. They are best friends since they where kids.

It'stheir last carefree summer before Grayson heads off to Vanderbilt to play football, Mike moves to New York City with his girlfriend, and Ian sets off into the world armed only with his guitar But this summer already starts in a different way for the three of them, because all three of them are taking a backpack of personal issues with them. Ian's dad didn't return from his last army deployment, Mike had to take on more responsibility in order to help provide for his family.Grayson’s accident left him with an injured throwing arm and an uncertain future. The boys, and their girlfriends who also show up in this book, make decisions that cause conflict and mistrust within the group. It’s not until one is pushed to the breaking point that they discover that friendship means more than just hanging out.

For the most part I liked the story of Boys of Summer. The story is told from alternating POV's, so for my review I had to write down all the specific characteristics and things about the main characters to avoid to mix them up. There was quite a lot of drama in it. It was refreshing to read a young adult book told from the viewpoints of three male protagonists. I was hoping I'd love this but ended up being more in like with it than in love. It's a very easy and fun read, but I had a few issues with the ending and how things resolved for each character. The author did a great job of bringing the setting, Winlock Harbor, to life, very well done. It is a perfect summer read though to take with you in your holiday suitcase or beach bag.
