It didn’t finish this book. I tried picking this book up multiple times but I just couldn’t read it, it wasn’t for me at all. I don’t want to give a star review since I didn’t finish the book but I have to do it in order to post it on Netgalley.
Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity!
Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity!
This is a book about redemption and coming of age story. I knew that this would somehow gets me emotional just by reading the synopsis. Kasey screws up, but I really don’t think that that is the case. Being overshadowed by her sister and neglected by her parents, it would result to a problem child. But Kasey, even though she lies at times, grew up to be kind hearted even though people thinks that it is the opposite. I like the idea of coming clean in a blog and I wish that there is more to it in the book.
Moreover, this book made me think as to whether Kasey is doing what she is doing because she feels sorry and she wants a revival or because her social status in school has turn from hero to zero and she wants to remedy that.
Overall, I like it. It is not as dark and emotional as I expected it to be. Of course there is a love interest but I’ll pretend that that didn’t exist in the book because I was really expecting a family and friends centered story and I feel like the romantic aspect of the book is a bit forced.
Sadly, this book was a miss. The main character, Kasey, felt over-dramatic and lacked dimension. Because of that, the rest of the family drama really fell apart. The treatment of Kasey's parents was frigid to the point of cruelty, and while the blog posts were an interesting touch, they lacked a lot of realism as far as blogging - in the opinion of a blogger, that is. Beyond that, the actual setting of this book pushed its more tropey elements to the extreme and made a potentially emotional story even harder to swallow. While it had a lot of potential and interest, the book itself just couldn't maintain the characters or storyline in a way that worked.
I really enjoyed this book of redemption. Kasey was dealt such a terrible deal by her parents who ignored her in total favor for her sister. No wonder she lost it. I know it's hard not to play favorites but parents should try. I loved how Kasey poured out her heart on her log. I actually wished the book had more blog posts. They were my favorite part of the story. Kasey's relationship with Lara had so much angst and rivalry. However I really feel like Kasey got the shorter end of the stick. As the older, more mature sister, Lara should have treated her better. Kasey made a lot of bad decisions but I don't honestly think she was responsible for the accident. She wasn't cold-hearted and I hated that everyone, including her parents, treated her like she was. I was not the biggest fan of the love interest but I did love the cruise setting. it really added to the light summer-read vibe this story had.
