As a family with members with Celiac and food allergies, we do not have any wheat or gluten in our home. I was interested to read what the book had to say. While there us some good information, you have to weed through the figurative chaff in order to get to it. Many of the statements in the book are gross exaggerations based on correlation rather than causation. At the end of the book, the author finally mentions that dietary changes eliminating wheat also need to drastically reduce carbs in general. That should have been the focus of this book rather than jumping on a trendy bandwagon. While the trend has resulted in more gluten free option for those of us who must avoid gluten and wheat, it has also resulted in more carelessness by those who don't understand gluten contamination but want tp cater to a fab.
Reading Wheat Belly once is a good thing. But subscribing to Audiobooks to read it twice is the mark of a book making a difference in someone's life. This author, though dry at times, in my opinion, offered me quite a bit of important insight into the food and agriculture industry as well as the potential negative effects of wheat on the human body. Understanding the many needs of my father, a person allergic to gluten, was my inspiration and my own aging body inspired me a second time. Thank you.
