HIS WICKED WISH - Olivia Drake

#5 in the Cinderella Sisterhood Regency romance series

APPEALING CHARACTERS - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Madelyn is a retired actress looking for money to open her own dress shop, and Nathan is looking for a woman to marry that will embarrass his estranged father. They make a deal, but of course Lady Milford (Nathan's godmother) has set it all up, and they are bound to fall in love.

Writing - 4 stars - I was caught up in the story right from the beginning. Drake writes in a casual and easy style that really resonated with me and made this a very pleasant read.

Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Madelyn is a strong-willed young woman who has worked as an actress her whole life, even though she knows that her mother was a high-society woman who was disowned when she married beneath her. Madelyn is driven by her need to avenge her mother. Nathan, the black sheep of the family, has come home after 10 years and is now a wealthy tradesman. He's got a vengeful streak as well and wants to get back at his father for an issue that the reader isn't told until further along in the story. Although they could be hurtful, both characters are attractive and appealing because of their earnestness. They seem to be working to right a wrong, so their behavior doesn't seem so bad.

Title - 4 stars - I suppose this refers to Nathan's desire for revenge against his father. A good title, although it doesn't really give us the full story or lead us in the right direction.

Cover - 3.5 stars - A very typical Regency cover with an attractive couple dressed in proper period clothes. Nice colors.

Overall - 4 stars - A very enjoyable book. Even though I haven't read any of the previous books in this series, this seemed to be a standalone, so there was no confusion. If characters from previous books were mentioned, then I couldn't tell and didn't have a problem with them. There is just a hint of magic involved with Madelyn's shoes, but there wasn't a lot about it, just enough to be fun. I liked that the story started with auction, introducing many of the characters right from the beginning and providing a bit of a different plot line. Then the action surrounding the kidnapping and the preliminary relationship between Theo and sister Emily kept things moving.

In book five of Olivia Drake's Cinderella Sisterhood series, His Wicked Wish, revenge is the common theme as both the hero and heroine carry long standing anger resulting from past cruel events. When Viscount Rowley marries actress Madelyn Swann as a way to get back at his father's treatment of him little does he know that his new wife has her own hidden plan of vengefulness. Both playing parts to exact what they think they want neither counted on the attraction both physical and emotional that would grow between them. Full of anguish, secrets and action Ms. Drake knows how to keep pages turning and imaginations flourishing. A nice addition to this popular series His Wicked Wish is a great way to escape for a few hours.

I have not had a chance to read this book yet. I am still working on catching up and also trying not to get too far behind on other books. I will update this review once I have read the book.

4 out of 5 stars! After ten years of being away Nathan (Nate) comes back home to London believing his father has passed away, only to learn the bitter truth that in actuality his older brother is dead while his father still lives, which makes Nathan the new heir. As a way of punishing his father, Nathan plans to marry the tawdriest woman he can find, and with the help of his godmother, he thinks he finds the perfect woman in Maddy (Madelyn). However, though Maddy grew up as an actress the secrets in her own past could ruin the possible future that they’ve carved out for themselves. Will all their plans come crashing down around them or will fate have other plans in store?

This dynamic novel was entertaining from the very beginning! The ways Nathan and Maddy go about trying to exact their revenge was hilarious and I was fascinated with how Maddy slowly seemed to fit perfectly into Nathan’s life and into his family. While the characters were a bit all over the place in their demeanor it was all of their eccentricities that regaled me the whole way through.

Nathan and Maddy were a unique couple, in that though they were virtual strangers, their revenge made them their most trusted allies and that in itself made their rapid relationship to be very believable. I liked their comrade and respect for one another, especially with how that grew into a loving relationship. Though I am still upset with how Nathan handled Maddy’s big revealing, I appreciated how he made his grand gesture at the end of the novel. They were a sweet charismatic couple that I enjoyed reading about!

I recommend this novel to those looking for a compelling historical romance!

I could not get into the first novel, and based on fellow bloggers/readers reviews, I am going to pass on this series.

I was so let down with this book. It took me forever to finish it. The plot was slow and boring and held no interest

This is one of those moments where you want to get the two into a room and just tell the. To actually say how they feel. It starts out as a con, except she's not really who he thinks she is and he isn't as cold as he wants her to think he is..

I loved this story! Once again Lady Milford loans out her red slippers to bring a woman her true love. This time she pairs her godson, Nathan with Maddy, an actress. She also just happens to be the granddaughter of a duke.

I was laughing out loud at Maddy's antics with Nathan's family. She really knew how to get under their skin. I also really enjoyed watching Maddy and Nathan's relationship grow from a marriage of convenience to one of love.

I've really enjoyed Drake's Cinderella Sisterhood series and hope that she continues with it!
