All River ever wanted to do was be her person and create nail polish and become a business owner. After her friend persuades her to do a Kickstarter for her Nail Polish business, she is surprised when she notices that someone has brought all her options and in one single payment completed her Kickstarter amount. She contacts the buyer, and all they want in return is to meet for Dinner. River reluctantly agrees and to her surprise and a little angered the backer is none other than billionaire Kane Winters. To the world, he is the hottest billionaire bachelor, but to River, he is the guy who ruined her life back in college and forced her to drop out after her scholarship was canceled. Now Kane wants a second chance with River as he has never forgiven himself for what happened to her in College. For River, she wants to get away as far as she can from him and never see him again. Though he is offering River the opportunity of a lifetime as with his backing, he can make her Nail polish empire dreams come true. When River finds herself jobless, she reluctantly agrees. What will happen though when she finds herself being asked to be more than just a business partner or investment for Kane? Kane wants to make River his wife, will River accept? Kane, however, is hiding a secret, he is, in fact, bisexual with his partner Will - whom River also knew back in College. Can she accept both of them or will her dreams of being a Nail Polish business owner go down the toilet? Find out in Opal Carew's Nailed - a book that went from being an M/F to an M/F/M.

Definitely a fun sexy read, but I felt like the book could have had more details in some areas. Overall, I really liked the book and would definitely recommend.

NAILED - Opal Carew

NOT WHAT YOU THINK - 3 stars

Plot - 3 stars - River is a nail-polish addict. (Who knew there was such a thing?) She loves polish, creates her own colors and designs, and wants to start her own company with her own polish line. A kickstarter promotion brings someone from her past back into her life with a tempting proposition. Unfortunately she has to face her past in order to capture her dream. Then things get really complicated.

Writing - 3 stars - Carew writes a good sexy story. The characters are full and well-built, even if I don't understand their motivations and/or can't really relate to them. The sex scenes are hot, and the conversations are smooth. It just seemed as though she wrote the great sex scenes, then worked the story about them. They rang true and exciting, but the story seemed somewhat contorted, trying to fit.

Characters - 3 stars - Kane is the super-sexy hero, rich, successful, and driven. He starts out as a great guy, open and caring. But his manipulative methods to get River to marry him seemed to counteract that original assessment, making me like him less. If he had just been honest with her, I'm thinking she would have gone along with his plan anyway. It seemed way over the top for him to have to take such control of the situation. And River's supposed humiliation years ago seemed lame. I suppose I can buy that she was distressed at the time (as an 18 or 19-year old girl), but her continued obsession about it years later seemed excessive. And what did he actually do? Nothing really, since it was his friends who set up the embarrassing situation. Shouldn't she have been a little more mature in college? And now? I didn't understand River's complete rejection of Kane when she had obvious feelings for him, then and now. Will is the typical nerdy best friend who makes good in the business world with Kane. But he's a very complex man, and the relationship between the three of them is confusing and often uncomfortable. There's a lot going on under the surface.

Format - 3 stars - I liked that the story went back and forth between her traumatic college situation and now. The story of their shared past was revealed little by little, and its connection to their present relationship made a lot of sense. But once the past was revealed, this format changed to the present, and the story lost a little of its fullness.

Title - 3.5 stars - Clever title. My first thought was that it was going to be about a carpenter or something, but instead it turned out to be about nail polish. And the double meaning definitely set the scene for a hot romance.

Cover - 3 stars - Great abs on a sexy male body. Love the look, but I wish romance authors would use a little more imagination with their covers.

Overview - 3 stars - I liked the book, with some nice characters and hot sexy scenes. But my biggest problem was with the basic premise. River's "humiliation" didn't seem all that big a deal, certainly nothing that would cause the kind of angst she's displaying. It made me roll my eyes a few times while listening to her whine, especially when Kane was offering her everything she dreamed of, with little risk for her. The chemistry between the characters seemed somewhat lacking. Although the sex scenes were hot, there was something uncomfortable about the whole book that just didn't ever get resolved.

The publisher sent me a copy of this book to review but I didn't enjoy it as much as her previous ones. although I have a few more to review of Opal's which I loved.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Ummmmm...that took a SURPRISING turn and honestly? I think the synopsis needs to be rewritten because that ending came out of NOWHERE.

Okay, other than that, I really enjoyed his book. I was rooting for River. Carew has this way of making her characters relatable (at least River was) that I really enjoy. Throw in a hunky billionaire from River's past and some screen melting scenes and you've got a great read.

I always like Carew's work and this is just another example of why.

This book contains situations of Same Sex Relations - which I can't give too much away because of potential spoilers.

When I started this book - I didn't know what I was getting myself into to be honest. I enjoyed the story - but at times it seemed to drag on for me.

The story starts out about River and Kane and how they knew each other in college but Kane has never been able to forget River. Which is sweet - but it almost borders on stalkerish. And River seemed perfectly fine with how Kane didn't forget her. She moved right in and gave up everything for her dream. Which while I do understand that to a degree - she literally gave up everything.

Then there were the twists that Carew threw in, which I don't want to mention because of spoilers, but it did detract from my enjoyment of the story.

Overall, it was a good read, but too much felt forced for me.

This is my first book by Ms. Carew and I picked it up because it sounded cute.

The Billionaire who wants a woman who is resistant, he uses the carrot of helping her business to get the marriage he wants – what could go wrong, right?

I will admit that I didn’t go into Nailed expecting a griping, emotional read. I was looking for a fun, cute, entertaining read. The book that I got was a bit jumbled, the story couldn’t seem to make up its mind between sexy/romantic and emotional/angst.

I bounced between liking River and Kane and being annoyed with them. Conflicts new and old were just swept away and never really dealt with as their relationship progressed. When the two finally do seem to make real emotional progress, a wrench gets thrown into the mix that leaves the ending of the book a little flat.

Overall, this was an okay read. It was quick and fun, but I felt like a lot of potential got left on the table in terms of conflicts and emotional avenues that could have been explored.
