Calling It by Jen Doyle

Oh, I so loved this! I've not been super into the sports romance subgenre, but this one sounded too intriguing to pass up. I love the small town in this story, and all the people who know each other. I loved the bar trivia scene, where the characters get to know one another in a casual setting. I loved the relationship between Nate and Dorie. Dorie constantly compares herself to who she think Nate would want to be with, and I related to her so much on that level. I think this will appeal to people who love Jill Shalvis's books, and am excited to find a series to recommend to lovers of sports romance as well!

4 out of 5 stars! A top playing baseball catcher goes home during his off-season with hopes of straightening out his life. Though who he finds to help him along the way is the one woman that he can't seem to get enough of and who doesn't want anything more from him other than a fling? Can he prove to her that they'll be able to last?

This hilariously drama filled contemporary romance was unexpected yet has a "down to earth" feel to it too. I enjoyed the build-up this plot has, while I was thoroughly entertained by its characters. It’s a wonderful baseball romance that reminded me a bit of Ms. Tan's “The Hot Streak.”

Like Nate (Nathan), I LOVED the way he met Dorie (Lucinda). They have a light hilarity between them that carries through this novel and draws its readers into their relationship even more. Yet, it was their intense connection that moved me and had me rooting for them from the beginning.

My only wish was that the last four chapters were written better so I could've liked Dorie more. I understand she was scared but she took the drama to a level that it really didn't need to go.

Nevertheless, I DO recommend this novel for those wanting a unique contemporary baseball romance.

I loved Calling It! Sports Romance, yummy baseball players, smart and intelligent heroine! Such a great read. I can't wait to read more from Jen Doyle.

Dorie is out on her own for the first time. With seven big brothers who were constantly hovering over her, she's happy to be starting this new life, in a small town in Iowa - as a librarian.

Imagine her surprise when the guy she's been crushing on, fantasizing about... show up in her living room... in the flesh! Nate Hawkins, is running from all the problems in Chicago and thinks a trip home might just do the trick. He never expected to find a woman who would make he start to rething... everything.

Nate was sexy, fun and Dorie was sarcastic and witty, smart... so refreshing for a heroine.

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for more in the series.

2.5-3 stars

I feel so bad that it took me a year to come back to this but the first 30% was so freaking slow it was almost boring. This time around I persevered, and when I passed the 30% mark the story started becoming more palatable and I even enjoyed it until the end. Dorie's insecurities about Nate were understandable but still frustrating because Nate kept trying to prove himself but she couldn't get past her fears to trust him. But I love that they were both adults about it, and I like how the conflicts in this were resolved.
