I found myself struggling with the dialogue throughout the book. It feels choppy with stifled flow. Nick has a very dry personality. I didn't really like him until the end and even that was negligible. The plot did not hook me. Lizzie's reactions were probably what I had a hard time with the most. Before the mid point of the book she uses her safe word 3 times. 3. I don't know if that's a reflection on Nick, Lizzie, or what but reading it made me roll my eyes to settle on this expression -.- The sex scenes were decent but when you don't connect with the characters, it loses significant impact. The story has its moments
Crystal Caswell is one of those authors I always enjoy reading, and Billionaire office romance is one of my favorite romance tropes. This book combines that with some light BDSM elements, which takes it up a notch or two for me as well. It's not overly dark, but the two main characters are just flawed enough to make them each interesting in their own rights. There were parts that were a little juvenile for me, being an adult romance, but since our heroine is only 19, it's believable.
I give this story 4 stars: The steam factor, the multi-dimensional characters, and the fact the book kept my attention despite the million other things I could've been doing.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
I was so glad that Lizzy got her book. After the first one, she needed a chance to thrive on her own, out of Kat's domain. I liked that Nick was hesitant about them getting together and the age difference did make me a little uncomfortable at first, but I got over it, just like he did apparently.
Kaswell crafted a really good book here... and while I'm still wondering why Nick's brother was after him and what happened with their relationship...I'm content with the way it ended. The love scenes were hot...although using his past trauma like that felt a little too 50 shades.
