When Chicago resident Eleanor “Ellie” Price receives a frantic phone call from her estranged father, his paranoia has her hopping a plane to Denver, CO. Her father, Baxter, is positive men are after him with murderous intent over something he doesn’t know about. Ellie is certain it is just his mental illness talking but she knows she needs to find him and convince him to seek help – even if it involves a long trek through treacherous snow covered mountains to search her grandfather’s cabin for her dad. Ellie can’t do it alone though. Her urban skills will not get her to him. Upon arriving in Denver Ellie immediately rents a car and drives to Simpson, where the cabin is located. She miraculously enlists the aid of George Holloway, member of the search and rescue (SAR) team, and famously recognized as the man who doesn’t talk – to anyone – ever. That is, until Ellie arrives and shakes up his world.

I’ve loved this series since the first book, On His Watch. The suspense and romance are nicely blended in this action-packed series. The imperfect couples in each book are perfectly matched. Ellie and George made me so happy in Gone Too Deep. Their chemistry is instantaneous and off the charts. She was able to do what no one had been able to do in a long, long time – get George to talk, converse, and open up to another person. The majority of the book is just George and Ellie and their quest to find Baxter, however, they face a lot of dangers that had my sitting on the edge of my seat. I was fully engaged in their story.

We get a little bit of back story concerning Ellie’s childhood and relationship with her dad. We also get a glimpse of her mother who, as far as I’m concerned, didn’t do her daughter any justice by refusing to support Ellie’s interest in her father. Sometimes it only takes attention from a special person (Ellie) to get someone on the brink (Baxter) back on the trail. The author also provides some background for George but not a lot. Why George doesn’t talk to anyone really isn’t addressed. Is it because of being on his own for so long? How can you be on the SAR team if you don’t talk? Having those questions though does not detract from the story. They are just observations. Maybe they were discussed and I missed them because I was anxious to keep reading.

I enjoyed the frequent revisits to some of the characters from previous books. They are, after all integral to the entire series. Each of their stories contain events that are important to the next book. I highly recommend that you read the series in order. And the ending of Gone Too Deep?? Holy cows. I did NOT see that coming! What a buildup through the previous books and a bomb drop at the end of this book!

Katie Ruggle's Search and Rescue series is phenomenal. The world building and character development in each book is extraordinary. I love the connection between Ellie and George. Their backgrounds, lifestyles, and living arrangements are vastly different from one another, yet, as the story progresses so does their attraction to each other. The chemistry between Ellie and George is unmistakable and their relationship evolves kind of quickly yet realistically. The romance is one of several key themes but it doesn't overshadow the seriousness of the events that unfold in Ellie and George’s world - worlds that may seem distinctly different but get entangled into one giant mess. Katie Ruggle does a superb job with these characters not only with their romance but with the struggles each faces in Gone Too Deep.

Katie Ruggle's writing style is wonderful; her worlds just flow across the pages smoothly, easily, and powerfully. I was engaged immediately and the content kept me focused. There are several themes weaved throughout the story, keeping the book from becoming stale, but not so much that the reader feels confused or overwhelmed. The characters were well developed and Ellie and George are really likeable and realistically written.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense!

Love the build up for this story! It's a slow burn, and the whole story is interesting and entertaining. I love the hike through the snowy forest, and there's some great action too! Why in the heck didn't they take snowmobiles!? That's what I was thinking the whole time, lol! I went back and forth on Ellie. She's awesome, but then she seems ditzy. She's way too trusting, and doesn't trust her gut, but I still liked her. George is great! Loved his gruff silent nature, and I liked that he was pretty much a hermit until Ellie came into his world. Ellie's dad has mental issues, and calls Ellie and tells her someone is out to kill him. Ellie doesn't believe him, but she doesn't want him to hurt himself, so she travels to a small town to find him. It turns out that her father may be at her grandfather's secluded cabin. Unfortunately, that cabin is a 3 day hike away through the snow, so she needs someone to go with her since she's a city girl. George and Ellie have quite the adventure, and there's plenty of dangerous scenarios and people involved. Very entertaining and definitely a page turner! Loved the romance between Ellie and George. It's so sweet! These 2 are adorable! Or really maybe that's mostly George, loved him! I'll definitely read more of this series and more of Katie Ruggle's work!

Absolutely love this series. Book 2 was kinda a miss for me, but the others have been outstanding.
I love how there's that attraction there from the very beginning but they don't act on it. They drag it out a little bit. And then it just builds up until there nothing else for them to do, but act on it.

If you like suspense and romance without one being overpowering this is the right series for you. Definitely should check them out.

Another really good one in the series. With such a wonderful Colorado setting and the backdrop of the search and rescue team, Gone Too Deep, was one I enjoyed from the start. The characters were great. George Holloway is an unusual hero, but one I grew to really like. Ellie Price is a wonderful heroine, and I liked the way their romance developed. The storyline was interesting and kept my interest.

Ellie Price is a city girl and enjoys her life in the city. Until one day it is interrupted by a phone call from her father saying that they are after him and he needs to go to the cabin. Not knowing who they are she finds out that he has not been in the hospital for months which also means he is not taking his medication. Now trying to remember where the cabin is will be a problem since she has not been there since she was ten. After speaking with her mother she decides to go to Colorado and look for her father. This now puts you into where the last book left off where the people in this small Rocky Mountain community are still trying to figure out who killed the person they found in the lake during a training exercise. Once she makes in town she is introduced to George and after some persuasion he agrees to take her to her father’s cabin. First off let me say many questions are answered about the mystery. Second there are some surprises about who had done some of the deeds one of the people I was surprised by. Which was actually good. I will say overall the hike and the story between Ellie and George are great. The author takes these two characters one huge in George, one small in Ellie and it works, but it is so much more that it is difficult for me to put in words or I would be giving away so much of the story. I think I liked this one better than the other ones and I am sure I have said that each time I have done a review. A very good book with very characters and a good story line.

I loved this book!!! I love this author and I love this series! After reading the preview chapters of In Too Deep at the end of Fan the Flame, this has been my most anticipated book release for the end of summer. I would recommend that you read the other books in order (and I consider them 4* reads) because this is a continuation of a suspenseful storyline that really begins with the discovery of a murder victim in Hold Your Breath.

This particular book and the relationship between George and Ellie was very much a slow build. They were definitely an opposites attract couple--she was a bubbly, social city gal, and he was the strong, solitary, silent mountain man. A good portion of the story was just the two of them in an isolated situation facing a variety of challenges that nature (and a few bad guys) threw at them and I loved this! Initially he rarely spoke, so as the story developed and he began to talk and smile more, it was all the more rewarding.

It was action packed and we had characters from the previous books make appearances and help pull things together. I am now eagerly anticipating the release of In Safe Hands later this year to see if we get all the answers to the mystery in the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue series.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and Casablanca Sourcebooks in exchange for an honest review.

THIS BOOK OMG!!!!

Ellie Price needs to find her father. For that she needs to cross a forest but she has no idea how to. She seeks the help of George Holloway who is the best survival expert Search & Rescue has.

George likes his solitude and prefers to spend his time exploring the wild. He never expects a charming, beautiful girl to ask for his help. The man who was never fazed by the worst of situations, finds himself helpless against Ellie. George knows if it comes to that, he'll tear the world apart to keep her safe.

Together they embark on an adventure through deadly terrains to find her missing father. But extreme weather, animals and Ellie's lack of experience aren't the only problems that'll stop them. There is a killer on lose and George might have to give his all to protect Ellie.

Books with adventures in them are my new favourite. I LOVED everything about this book. George and Ellie's romance is a slow burn that made my heart ache in the best way. I adore Ellie for her fighting spirit and all round badassery. And George, HOLY MOSES George!!!! He is absolutely pure and honest and amazing and loving.

Katie Ruggle is my new fave and it's official that I can read anything by her.

I love George. I loved him in the previous books and I loved him in this one. I'm not entirely sure how believable he is, but it did not stop me from loving him. I found Elle a bit insane, I mean really? Going on a days long hike to find your dad with a complete stranger? but George won this one for me.
