This is the second novel in Koryta's Mark Novak series.
RISE THE DARK is an interesting and engaging thriller, one with plenty of chilling scenes. Koryta's a good writer (apparently he was a horror author before moving more into thrillers), and his characters are well-drawn and engaging.
An interesting read, and I'd be interested in reading more by him.
