It's difficult these days in the glut of genre fiction now available due to e-presses to find an author worth following. To say an author isn't is generally a statement of preference and taste. Still, it is so tricky to not damn with faint praise; that I rarely review books I don't award 4 stars or more. This book is in that category. I wanted more.
Received an ARC for an honest review.
Having not read the first two books in the Legal Heat series, I was worried about how I would be able to keep up, but my fears were unnecessary. Castille gives you enough information and background about the MC that you have no problem catching up.
Sophie and Ace are attracted to each other from the moment they meat, but when Sophie's brother asks Ace to watch out for her, it isn't long before the attraction boils over and they can't keep their hands off one another. What starts as a one-night kinda thing quickly escalates as they both realize they want each other and in their quest to find Jason, they just might need each other.
I loved that we saw them each struggle with their roles. How do a cop and a one percenter work? Watching each of them weigh shutting down a part of who they are was fascinating and made this read so much more enjoyable.
All in all, a fun read that made me want to go back and read the first two.
