Excellent book for creatives who also want a thriving career -- i.e., make money and support themselves. I read a lot of business/ self-help and I liked this enough to feature in my Forbes.com column:
To build a career in today’s market: The Artist’s Compass by Rachel S. Moore

Though the subtitle of this book is “The Complete Guide to Building a Life and a Living in the Performing Arts,” this book is well worth reading for professionals in any industry, including the non-creative. Yes, the examples come from the arts and the author is a former dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and now the President and CEO of the Los Angeles Music Center. (She walks her talk!) But in today’s market, everyone, not just the nomadic, freelancing artist, needs to proactively own and manage their career. This book is an excellent guide to keeping the hustle, motivation, and organization needed to thrive in a job market where you constantly need to look for your next opportunity.
