Excellent read. Interesting and entertaining characters. Lots of twists and turns with plenty of drama thrown in. Page turning story as we follow the journey of the characters. Would recommend. Good read.

Leaving Blythe River is a thoughtful tale of self discovery set among the brutal and beautiful mountainous wilderness of the Blyth River Range. Ethan Underwood is a young seventeen year old, plucked from the city and set in the middle of nowhere, where he is fearful of everything that could go wrong, and does. As he searches for his father among the wilderness, he discovers parts of himself that he didn't know were there, gaining wisdom and courage along the way. Beautiful and breathtaking , this novel stays with readers long after the last page is read.

Catherine Ryan Hyde delivers another great story! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Leaving Blythe River. Thank you for the opportunity to read for a fair review.

I liked parts of this novel, but the supporting characters became very caricature-y as they ventured into the wilderness to help Ethan find his father. The emotional connections between the family members were more interesting to read.

I love Catherine Ryan Hyde’s books, she’s one of my favorite “found via Kindle” authors, and this book was no exception. This is a bit of a condensed coming-of-age story, only covering a short period of time. But young Ethan has to grow up very quickly after an series of difficult events leads up to a race against time to find his father. Ethan has to face a lot of his fears and overcome his natural inclinations (not to mention his extremely conflicted feelings about his father) to undertake the search. The vivid descriptions of the fictional Blythe River Wilderness left me wishing that it were a real place. (Perhaps I should visit the Wind River Range in Wyoming, upon which she’s said it’s very loosely based.) But as with the other books I’ve read by Hyde, the characters are the real stars of the story - flawed, well-drawn and fully developed. She’s delivered another satisfying read, and hasn’t disappointed me yet. Happily, I haven’t read all of her books, so anticipate more enjoyable reads from Ms. Hyde.
