So sadly I did not really love this book and most of it had to do the MC's. What started so cute and promising just tired me out and left me rolling my eyes. The heroine and hero meet when he is undercover working in a bar. The two instantly click and finally sleep together after only a few meetings. They both are planning moves to NYC and hope to continue to work on their relationship once there. Though things do not quite work out that way and it's about two years before they see each other again. The heroine has a dangerous ex who basically leads her to running and keeping the heroes child a secret from him. Normally I'm all for a secret baby romance but the heroine had no real cause of justification for this especially since he told her he was working undercover. Umm would someone in law enforcement not be someone who can protect and help you? The only viable threat she knows about is someone slashing the heroes tires. This is enough to set her on the path and she breaks his heart (and I guess maybe she truly did, the insta-lust/love was real) and he goes off to sleep his way through women, back to his playboy ways to forget her. I didn't get any sense he even tried to fight for her. The two are brought back together when the heroine is brought in for questioning after her ex is found dead with a gunshot wound to the head. Luckily the two get down to business and the heroine does not hold back in telling him about their child. The hero is justifiably mad but this whole mess was just blown so out of proportion. In days the hero is ready to give it all up for her again but has to break it off with his side chick who he's been screwing on and off for about a year. This is what threw me and made me feel some type of way about him. When he goes to break it off with her, he even questions if it's the right thing to do. Meaning he was a lot more serious about them than he let on, no matter what he says after the fact. I really felt like he was pushed into a corner and just chose the heroine because they shared a child, it was awkward. When the heroine confronts him and really questions him if he is making the right choice he tells her it's not fair to his side piece or him to speculate on what could have been. Umm what, that just comes off so wrong to me?!?! He has to remind himself what they had was comfortable and enjoyable but nothing more. "I wanted to say my draw to Stacie was because she reminded me so much of her. (the heroine) She filled a void that all the other women I fucked these past twenty-two months simply couldn't. Except for Stacie, not one of them meant a thing to me." Sounds a bit more serious to me and why does he need to remind himself of that if it's not true? Guess I just like my men a bit more romantic and head over heels than he was. I just did not get that really from either of them. Sure the sexual chemistry is off the charts but their first time together is rushed and then after they are sort of forced together because of the case and their sharing a child. Just wish there was more foundation built for them.
Glass Ceilings is the second book in The True Heroes series and A.M.Madden has done it again with another amazing read.
Nick Farley was introduced to us briefly in the Back Up series and more recently in Stone Walls, the first book in the True Heroes series and is now the main character in Glass Ceilings. He is an FBI agent who has literally been married to his job. It has been the one thing with true meaning in his life and his unwaiving dedication proves that. 2 years earlier he met Angela Cavello while working undercover in Chicago and thought that maybe he could have someone in his life that meant more than his job. With this case finalised the plan was to move to New York and start on the next Journey is his career and Angela would follow suit, but circumstances that he didn't really understand prevented that with Angela breaking it off before it ever started.
Angela Cavello was in a relationship with a man she thought she knew until recently, so she decided it was time to leave and start over. With the help of her cousin Eve she was making a start and had a bucket list to tick off, which included a one night stand. Heading to a pub called The Dump is where she meets Nick and after one very special New Years Eve she knows this is more than a one night stand. With plans set to go to New York and be with Nick, everything changes with death of her uncle and the return of her ex who is more dangerous than she first thought. With her heart torn in two she ends things with Nick and a secret she is keeping and flees to another stare.
Nearly 2 years later they are reunited in the worst of circumstances. Nick has to fight with his heart and his head to overcome why Angela broke his heart 2 years earlier and all Angela wants to do is share her secret and find a way to be with the man she loves.
I have loved reading this book. Getting to know all of Nick Farley and meeting Angela Cavello has been a joy to read. It kept me on the edge of my seat with anticipation to see how it would all play out. Congratulations A.M.Madden on another exceptional read.
I really wanted to love this book because I enjoyed the premise of the story. The hero is an undercover FBI agent and while working to bring down a local criminal ring has a one night stand with a girl who ends up getting pregnant and disappears because of a stalker and finally comes back after two years to tell our hero he is the father of a baby boy.
Unfortunately, this book really fell flat for me. The beginning was really slow to develop and Nick and Angela actually became friends before they had their one-night stand and kept in touch afterward via phone call since Nick had to go to New York after he wrapped up his investigation to start his job since he was promoted. Then the story was told in flashbacks in every other chapter and I hate that type of gimmick.
I also hated the fact after Angela came back after two years to introduce Nick to his son that Nick had another girl already. And he kept waffling back and forth between the two women and he couldn't even figure out if he even loved Angela. I think this was pretty much the reason that I gave this book a one star because of Nick's indecision. Not that he ever really loved the other woman, but he felt some type of loyalty to her. However, Angela was true to Nick the entire time she was in hiding and she hid because she wanted to protect her family, her son and Nick. So I felt that Nick really didn't deserve Angela and that Nick's character was very much lacking. He ended up not really being much of a hero.
Sexy. Sweet. Unforgettable. I love this author and the stories she writes. Great chemistry. Undeniable attraction. Smoldering tension. Characters that make you feel everything. Highly recommended this book y'all!
I enjoyed this book. It pulled you right in and kept you turning the pages. This book was well written and I had no issues following the story.
This was a good story. Lots of intrigue with the mob, the FBI, and a dead guy. Within all that is a story of overwhelming chemistry, Love, loss and HEA.
GLASS CEILINGS is the second book in the True Heroes series. It does stand alone, but Ella and Ben from STONE WALLS are revisited. Though knowing their story is not necessary, I am burning to know the details… what happened to Ella!!?
The majority of the book is written in first person, Nick’s POV. There are only a few chapters from Angela.
Another book that I loved from page one. Another book that I wished could go on and on.
This will be one of the few books that I will pick up to re-read…. to re-visit favorite characters. In fact, I think I’ll go pick it back up again right now!
This is the first book that I have read from A.M. Madden. I definitely want to read more.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
I have not had a chance to read this book yet. I am still working on catching up and also trying not to get too far behind on other books. I will update this review once I have read the book.
I enjoyed this story of Nick, Angela, and the secret she's keeping from him. I liked reading about these former lovers who meet again. Both were characters I liked, and I found the storyline interesting. This one was quick and easy to read, making for a good reading experience.
4.5 stars
Super sexy cop Nick Farley has had his share of danger and mischief. New Years Eve night is a atruegemawardperfect example of the danger and mischief he likes however; a fling with Angela Cavello left him wondering and wanting..oh did that night leave him wanting.
Running from a stalker, and a huge secret, Angela finds herself back where she has always wondered what if with Nick. However, the huge secret will affect Nick for the rest of his life. Is he willing to step up and be the man that Angela knows he can be?
When Angela is the suspect in a murder, watching Nick battle with what he knows is right and what he knows in his heart will tug at any reader’s heart strings. This book had a way of worming itself into my heart. I wanted Nick to fight for Angela, be the man that the reader oh so easily sees he is, and just does what he knows, deep down is right. The heartbreak, and then make up, is so worth this read!
Wasn't for me, found it too hard to get into the story an characters. Thanks for letting me try your books. But will try author again thow.
I cannot fully convey how much I loved reading Glass Ceilings! I like suspense and mysteries in addition to romances so this checked all the boxes. Plus bonus points for the mob being in it.
Nick is an undercover cop working as a bartender as part of a case; when he meets Angela. Angela is different from any other girl he's met and that grabs him.
Fast forward 2 years later when Nick and Angela unexpectedly meet again. And the sparks still fly. But there's a few more details that have changed from 2 years ago.
Want more? Read the book and find out!
