This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you
A good book about finding each other. Although, I did find it dragged on a bit and the characters were pleasing, I felt the other characters could have been drawn in a little better. I had no connection with them. That being said, it was still a good read. Book provided by NetGalley.
I'm a fan of this author so I thought I would really enjoy this book but it was just ok. I really didn't feel the connection between the hero and heroine and there were a few things in the story I didn't really care for. Overall it was just an ok read.
An emotionally charged and at times volatile love story, but what else can you expect from country music aficionados. Lots of ups and downs, not so much communication which fans the flame of unrest.
Fast paced and enjoyable to read. Looking forward to more of this series.
I have really mixed reviews with this book. I liked the characters, but I wish I knew them better. I felt like I got dropped in the middle of their story, and than rushed to the finish line.
As a fan of Erin McCarthy's previous works, I was excited to see what she would bring to readers with this new series.
Heart Breaker brings us a story of Chance and Jolene who are post breakup but forced to work together again by their careers. Their relationship is bitter and filled with dislike and complications. Finding themselves forced together shouldn't be a good thing, but they can't seem to forget their past connection, the problems that arose, or the fierce chemistry that still burns between them. The biggest issue between these two is their lack of communication which stemmed trust issues and further problems.
As these two find themselves trying to work together, trying to salvage something, they find themselves coming together again. I struggled with these characters through parts of the story, as they behaved immaturely and I couldn't see why either of them would want a relationship with the other but did eventually get to a place where I could see where they were both coming from with their personal issues and how it had affected their initial relationship.
Heart Breaker offers up a second chance romance with a twist on the rock star trope, by bringing us two country stars with a whole lot of drama between them.
HEART BREAKER - Erin McCarthy
#1 in the Nashville Nights romance series
MUSIC AND ROMANCE - 4 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Jolene and Chance were once an up-and-coming country music duo, specializing in love songs to match their personal love story. But since they are both dynamic and take-charge people, their romance had volatile ups and downs, eventually ending in an explosive breakup. But now their manager is forcing them together to write an album and re-start their careers. Although they love each other, they just can't get their acts together to make it work.
Writing - 4 stars - McCarthy creates appealing and approachable characters that you want to hang out with. In this case, even though Jolene and Chance are stars, they have vulnerabilities and doubts. Right out of the gate, you understand the dynamic between them and root for their success.
Characters - 4 stars - This is where this book shone for me. Jolene is a natural singer with a talent for grabbing the audience during her performances. But she's always questioning her ability to stay on top since she came up from the bottom and doubts her abilities. Chance, on the other hand, grew up in the business with a famous grandfather and father. But he doesn't feel comfortable with the fame, and this sometimes sets off his temper. They care deeply for each other, but because of their baggage, neither has taken the time to share their feelings. Lack of communication is their biggest issue. They both run off and make decisions without taking the time to think and share. It's frustrating, but it's what makes them exciting, I suppose.
Title - 4 stars - This title makes sense when you think of the characters involved. Each of them has the ability to break the other's heart. But it's a two-way street, and they both have had feelings of betrayal.
Cover - 3.5 stars - Pretty woman on the cover, and it represents the fact that she is either the heart breaker or the one with her heart being broken. And I suppose both apply.
Overview - 4 stars - A very pleasant romance with a couple of very attractive characters. The songwriting and performing aspect of the story made things interesting and kept them a little more exotic. But the problems they face in their relationship are all too familiar to the everyday reader, which made them very relatable. The volatile up-and-down relationship brought tears at times when they'd hurt each other, to dizzying happiness when they worked together so well. It was unpredictable and fascinating to watch.
I have not had a chance to read this book yet. I am still working on catching up and also trying not to get too far behind on other books. I will update this review once I have read the book.
Erin McCarthy really came through with Heart Breaker. It was a real story about two people who were going to make beautiful music together or kill each other. As volatile tempers flare and stubbornness prevails, Chance and Jolene burn up the pages. Oil and water – definitely – until the bedspread is turned down.
Together, Chance and Jolene write beautiful music. Apart, they can’t find a note to hang on the refrigerator. But, after their unbelievable break-up, their Manager insists that they put everything aside and start working on that second album that they are contracted for. Well, there are a few conditions to them working together and neither one of them are willing to bend to make it work. Until …. A cabin in the woods, a pond and finally admitting that they want each other.
Chance is insecure about his place in the music business because of his family. He was raised my two men who were legends in Nashville and womanizers. He has no idea how to express his feelings to Jolene, how to really make a commitment, how to control his temper. But he really wants to learn and tell her how much he’s missed her.
Jolene is stubborn and a true alpha female. She came from the poorest of poor families and fought for everything that she has right now. She can’t afford to lose it all because of a man that can’t do what she wants and says. Yes, the break-up was bad but getting back together with him will do them no good either. But, without his songs, she’s not going anywhere. So, fight the lust and write songs or fail at the one thing she has wanted most in her life? Is there really a decision to be made?
What started as a good time has them realizing that they are so much better together than apart. It’s back on and Heart-Rivers are jumping back into the music scene as well as the bed. The break-up album just may be the back-together album that neither one of them saw coming. Too bad they were spending more time in bed than they were with the guitar. Enter Tennyson and the bomb that could finally put an end to all the heartache.
Erin McCarthy really took us on a fun ride through the Nashville music scene. It took a lot for me to get through this book without giggling. The dog’s name was Dolly and, whenever Chance said Jolene, all I could hear is Dolly Parton singing Jolene. So, I am going to assume that Erin McCarthy is a Dolly Parton fan??? But, I really did enjoy this story. It was hot and steamy when it had to be, it was mean and nasty when the story called for it. It was definitely written with a flair for the dramatic with these two characters. But, most of all, it was an enjoyable read with a really sweet and sexy happily-ever-after.
I am sorry I never got a chance to read this. My phone would not download it. I apologize.
