The Girl in the Picture is a ya mystery by the same author who wrote the Timeless series. It's about 3 students whose lives are intertwined and the mystery of how one of them died. I thought the pacing was good - it was a quick read for me. The paranormal element wasn't something I was expecting and I wasn't the biggest fan of that aspect.

I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

You know how sometimes you read books and get a sense of Deja Vu, but you can't put your finger on it as all evidence is pointing to that you haven't read it. That's how I was with the Girl in the Picture by Alexandra Monir. Overall, I knew I hadn't read the book but there were a lot of parts to it that just sounded so darn familiar. This book is perfect if you love YA Thrillers. The book starts off in the present time with the popular guy Chace Porter being found dead in the woods after a party. Anyone could have killed him, but the police are narrowing down their suspects to two females - Nicole Morgan and Lana Riveria. Nicole was a violinist and not on the popular radar whereas Lana was Miss Queen Bee. They both loved Chace, but only one of them could ultimately be with him. The book then jumps back to the moment where Chace starts school and meets not only Lana but also Nicole. We learn too that Nicole and Lana have been put together as Roomies and though Chace really wanted to be with Nicole, he ended up with Lana who politically was the best choice. The thing though is all those memories are about to be brought back up as Chace was found dead with the pictures of him and Nicole in his pocket and Nicole is forced to relive the last night she had anything to do with Chace and Lana - the night she got her scar. This was a fast-paced read and when the real killer is revealed, it all made sense and I loved how all the characters including the killer were tied together and intertwined with one another's lives. So, readers if you are on the lookout for a good YA thriller - then check out Alexandra Monir's The Girl in the Picture and find out who really killed Chace Porter, that fateful night.

Chace Porter, OysterBay Prep’s soccer star and leading man, is found dead, and the only clue in this whodunit is a picture in his pocket of him with a girl no one knew was close to him. His girlfriend, Lana Rivera, is both devastated by his death and furious at her ex-roomie, Nicole Morgan, the girl in the picture. While the student body is sequestered on campus during the investigation, Nicole becomes the prime suspect before being arrested. But did she really murder Chace? She claims she didn’t, but the evidence categorically points to her. Told by Lana and Nicole in alternating points of view and time frames, layered secrets are revealed about the three students, Lana’s and Chace’s politician parents, and Chace’s past. Despite stereotypical characters (the beautiful, self-absorbed rich girl; the nerdy, talented, violin-playing girl from a single-parent home; the stunningly handsome, athletic boy; and the pushy politician parents), this is a murder mystery with tightly tucked-in clues. Perfect for readers who enjoy fancy prep-school tales or mysteries. (Appeared in Booklist - link below)

I thought that I would like this book but I wasn't able to get into this book at this time. Sadly this book did not finish the book.

THE GIRL IN THE PICTURE by Alexandra Monir is a compelling murder mystery with a dash of paranormal thrown in.

The most popular boy in school, Chase Porter, is found dead in the woods with a photo of Nicole in his pocket. Nicole happens to be his girlfriend, Lana’s roommate and best friend. Now she’s the primary suspect in his murder case.

Told in alternating points of view between Nicole and Lana, and switching between present day and flashbacks, this book is a gripping read until the very last page.

Monir is a fun writer. She does a great job of creating suspense, building out a mystery, and delivering a satisfying ending. Perfect for fans of GOSSIP GIRL.
