This book has everything from gang wars to corruption in the city from the officials and on the streets as well. You also get a look into the law of sending Chinese people back to their country even though like so many were born here. People forget that the railroad companies brought Cinnesse workmen and women over to build the railroad for cheap labor and then forgot about them when the work was over. Now in New York and other places, you had opium dens and the gangs were wanting and taking control. A really good book about a forgotten time.
