I never have a bad time picking up her romances and I loved her take on a popstar romance. Layne is the queen of witty dialogue and it really shines in this book with the sexual tension between Jenny and Noah. I haven't read Lauren Layne in years and hope she decides to write open door romances again in the future.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Adorable! Jenny is hiding out after a PR scandal and she goes to a remote area in Louisiana to lick her wounds and work on her next album. Noah is hanging around as a handyman, even though he's actually the owner of the house. At first, they can't stand each other. He thinks she's a spoiled princess. She thinks he's a curmudgeon. The problem? They're insanely attracted to one another. That's the problem with being out in the woods with only each other for company - it isn't long before the attraction comes to a head.
I was getting a little annoyed by Noah's habit of being a jerk and then apologizing to Jenny and trying to make it all better. After a while, I was like, get over it. And, I'm not going to lie...if it had happened one more time, I wouldn't have been rooting for these two to get together. Thankfully, Layne kept us just this side of unforgivable.
I loved the story, but the added benefit of the dogs and Noah's best friends were what really rounded out the story for me. I hope Vaughan and Finn each get a HEA soon.
ood Girl is the first of Lauren's books that I've read, and it wont be the last. I really enjoyed Jenny and Noah's story. Jenny is a famous country singer who basically goes into a bit of a hiding when a story that was completely false comes out about her. She decides she needs to get away from it all. The fame, the paparazzi. All of it. When she arrives at the place she is going to be staying she meets Noah. Noah is like a bit of an a-hole. He's mean, sometimes really mean, to Jenny. But honestly I loved him.. I don't know what it is about me that loves the mean ones, but I do.
From the start these two butt heads. Its like a crazy tension that happens when they are around each other. I so badly just wanted them together. The Good Girl is the story of two people who try hard to hate each other. Who try to defy what was already in store for them. And when they finally let it happen, its a beautiful thing.
Lauren, you have a fan in me. I can't wait to read more of your books!
Jenny Dawson is the newest country music sensation. At 22 she has a sexy, fresh faced, "Good Girl" image... That is until Pop idol Shawn Bates tells the public that he had an affair on his wife with Jenny. But Jenny's only met the guy, like three times max and has never slept with him.
So as Shawn's wife and internet trolls, malign Jenny in the media, she decides to take a break. Returning to a place she wrote her first song, a mansion in Louisiana that was set up for gifted young musicians to stay and work on their art.
Now in disrepair, the mansion is owned by illegitimate son, Preston Noah Maxwell Walcott, Jr, whom Jenny mistakes as the groundskeeper. Preston, who wants to be known as Noah, takes an instant dislike to Jenny. Due to his recent break-up and the end to his engagement, the last thing he's interested in is a woman. But there's something about the girl he thinks is a man-eater, that calls to his protective instinct. Soon he can't keep his hands off her.
Look, I thought the story was sweet in how Jenny and Noah get to know each other and the dogs were sweet, but it had a lot of issues with this book. I think because I was a talent agent for many years, I just can't understand why Jenny would walk away and let this guy, Shawn, lie about her, let his wife play the victim to something that wasn't true, along with letting her public persona take a hit for some lie. Just made no sense to me. I, as an agent, would have encourage her to hire a P.I. to find out what was really happening. I would have had her make a public statement saying her truth and that she wouldn't address it again after that. I had no issue with her getting out of the public eye for a bit, but just thinking it would blow over was ridiculous. I the real world, her music label would want the truth to come out. If she's touted as a squeaky, clean, girl next door type, they won't want their cash cow hurt in any way.
It just made not sense to me. She would't even tell her agent or PR person the truth. I get that she thought they wouldn't believe her, but she never gave them the chance to believe her or not. And if they didn't believe her, these aren't the people she should have representing her.
I just didn't get why it had to go on so long. All the time she's trying to pull information from Noah about his life and who he is, and he's making snide remarks to her about the men she chooses to be with and she just took it. Never said, this never happened. She just sat on her pride and either looked hurt or teared up.
Actually the more of the review I'm writing, the more I dislike the story and am reducing my 3 rating to a 2. It just makes me mad. Thank goodness it was an audiobook, because if I had just read it, it would have been a DNF.
I am sorry I never got a chance to read this. My phone would not download it. I apologize.
This book is pure enjoyable romantic fluff, and I mean that as a compliment!
Jenny is a young star on the rise until a scandal based on lies makes her choose to step out of the spotlight. Noah is a man who doubts his identity having lived half his life in a trailer park and half his life in a mansion. Both are hiding secrets, but when their true characters are revealed it will either bond them together more strongly or tear them apart.
What you read online or in the news isn't always true and Jenny Dawson is learning that first hand. As an up and coming country singer turned superstar, she is always under the public's eye. And when a picture with an acquaintance gets spun in an unflattering way - Jenny just needs to get away.
Noah Maxwell's life is spinning out of control. With the death of his father came a ton of responsibilities that he just isn't willing to take. On top of that a cheating fiance, who is determined to still walk down the isle is adding even more pressure that he just doesn't want to deal with.
So with Jenny Dawson ends up on the front porch of the house his father left to him and assumes he's the handyman, he doesn't say a word to correct her. Maybe he can hide out here and work on the old house, keeping out of the way of the superstar who's rented it for the month to hide from her own problems.
The chemistry between Noah and Jenny is fun, flirty and through the roof. Two people who can't seem to stand each other, grows into a friendship that sometimes goes off the hook in an exciting way. But both have secrets... and those secrets could mean the end of carefree life that both of them crave.
Lauren is a master at letting you become a part of the story. Her main characters are enticing and secondary characters are always a great relief with their comedic fair and support.
Loved this book and Lauren is definitely becoming one of my go to authors.
Lost interest in reading this title as too much time has passed since original request.
Good Girl has been my first book by Lauren Layne, even though I heard quite a lot about her. I did like her writing style a lot, so I will defintely look into more of her books.
I enjoyed the setting of Good Girl: the rural Louisiana, a pop star hiding from bad media and meeting a cute man at her hideaway.
Jenny was a cute girl, even though I found her a bit naive at times. Noah acted like an ass most of the times and I didn't like how he treated Jenny. He was exactly the preppy guy he didn't want to be. Therefore the connection between Jenny and Noah didn't really work for me and there weren't many sparks for me.
The ending was cute and I enjoyed the happy ending. Overall it was an enjoyable read which was ruined a bit for me due to the male protagonist.
Thank you so much for approving me. Unfortunately I ended up not being able to finish this book.
Lauren Layne has become one of my go to authors! This story was no exception. I absolutely love the banter between Noah and Jenny. The story was seamlessly well written and the characters believable. This book kept me up until the late hours because I just couldn't put it down.
