A children's book that will make you tear up! If you enjoy Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (one of my all-time childhood faves), this has the double theme of objects being discarded and people being treated like objects. With sweet illustrations and a very sweet ending, this one does not need to be missed!

The book is beautiful. I love the art style, it reminds me of Eric Carle's painted paper collage style. I liked the story, it was an interesting exploration of place, change, and poverty. However, I think the story is a little complex for the age group I initially imagined reading this to. I don't know what it'll come across the way it does for older kids or adults, as a complex story of cycles and overabundance and material possessions. However, the art style is something I know kids will find striking and it makes me want to rate it higher than I have. I do think it's an interesting addition to a classroom library, as it focuses on ships, place, and change, which aren't something I've seen addressed a lot in the classroom libraries I've seen.
