Finally got around to reading this beauty (I know, I know, but my TBR is crushingly high.) and oh my gosh, I wasn't ready for the feelings. This book rolls right into my wheelhouse with its handling of tragedy, first love, and ultimate hope. I think it's a classic for a reason, and I'm so glad to have finally let myself read it in one sitting.

I always meant to read Arnold's first novel Mosquitoland and never got around to it. I initially read a lot of reviews that implied this books was pretentious and I can see where they're coming from. But I also think if you hand this to patrons who are fans of John Green they'll really enjoy it. I'm glad I've got it in mind to recommend even if it wasn't my favorite.

I loved this one so much that I went to see the author on his book tour and bought a copy for myself, as well as a copy for my library. It requires a little hand selling usually, but once teens find themselves drawn into it quickly, just as I was. Beautiful and life-changing.

Kids of Appetite is about a teenager named Victor who is dealing with the aftermath after the death of his father, and a diagnosis of Moebius Syndrome. Because of this, he has zero facial expressions and deals with being the brunt of everyone's jokes. He struggles with the new family dynamic and seems to become more solitary as time passes. Then, he runs into a young woman who he is crazy about and the story is off and running from there.. (I don't want to give too much away). The alternating point of views and the switch in time frames makes the book more compelling.
