I loved this book. This might have been the most realistic novel of being a young political aide I have read in a long time. I also liked the fact it showed how marriages work truly in that lifestyle instead of the usual over the top fluff we normally get in these books. I'd be very much hoping we could see a follow up book about these two showing them move into the middle part of their lives and careers.
A great story about the inner workings of DC life as it revolves around al things politics and the whos who of it all! Beth and Matt move to DC for his job and while Matt takes to the city quickly as he is immediately entrenched in the DC life, Beth struggles to find her footing and can't find anything she likes. In walks another couple who are about the same age and the husband is doing DC like Matt and the wife befriends Beth, allowing Beth to find some happiness in the city.
I love all the things this book did. Being a DC resident, or a VA resident just outside the city, I enjoyed reading about how politics is such a driving factor and I feel that myself with neither my husband nor I "working in the industry." I also loved the commentary on marriage. In this book, you get an inside look on two marriages and I loved reading about how life can affect a marriage and the highs and lows of it all.
I was a Jennifer Close fan before this book and now that I have read all of her books, I am just wishing for another!
Beth and her husband Matt are new to DC and are befriended by Texans Ashleigh and Jimmy. The couples become inseparable--Matt even becomes Jimmy's campaign manager when he runs for local office in Texas. This is the story of the complexity of couple friendships, especially when mixed with work.
