Definitely unique. Splendid and beautifully written.
I can't express how much I've loved this book. Possibly one of my very favorites.
I started to read this book three different times and just could never get to a point that made me want to continnue. I originally requested the book because I thought it sounded similar to A Man Called Ove, which is a favorite of mine. But right away I found the character of Germain to be vulgar and crass and I was immediately turned off by that. While the synopsis mentioned the story having humor, this was not what I was expecting. I was looking forward to a story about a younger man developing a relationship with an elderly woman and how both of their lives changed, not about Germain's sex life multiple times. I won't be finishing this book, but felt that I read enough to provide this feedback. I won't be posting this review on my blog or on Goodreads, but will mark it as a Did Not Finish book.
A cute, lighthearted tale ..... nothing that’ll keep you up all night with, but definitely worth the read! Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity.
This could've been, in the hands of a lesser author, a sacchrine novel of abelist nonsense. But instead, it is a surprisingly charming and much more realistic kind of story of the meeting of 2 very different worlds.
Unfortunately, "Soft in the Head" did not qualify for a Marvelous Novel of the Month on my website (The Marvelous Site) and I do not post negative reviews on my site . . . only all things marvelous. I have given more detailed thoughts about the book to the publisher.in the feedback section.
