I was really disappointed in this book. It wasn't really a suspenseful mystery at all and it was really hard to follow. It started off slow - the flashbacks were very confusing, and by time things got interesting at university, everything started going downhill and getting more and more confusing. Too many interwoven stories forced to connect and by the end it all fell flat. The end was a total cop out. Like she totally gave up. Not a fan.
I received a free copy of this novel from NetGalley and Random House Chatterbox House Party in exchange for an honest review.
More like 3.5 stars, but rounding up.
After reading three or four cozy mysteries through this program (that were mainly mediocre at best), I found this book to be a relief. It is billed as a thriller, and while I would not go that far, it is definitely not a cozy mystery. It's a pretty dark story about a young woman, Pen, who heads off to college and is soon surrounded by the deaths of several of her classmates.
I will admit that it wasn't quite the page-turner I expected, but for a debut novel, it is pretty decent. Pen is an unreliable narrator, so the suspense is definitely there until the end. I would definitely read future books from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I found that this book "just wasn't for me". I think it likely would appeal to a NA or YA reader. It was hard for me to connect to the characters in this one.
I received a free copy of this book from Houseparty/Chatterbox for a fair and honest review. Australian Penelope Sheppard's life is finally getting back on track when she moves in to her new college...until her new friends start dying. These deaths bring back the horrors of her past, and send her down a new, dark path. This is the first book I have read by Aoife Clifford, and I want more. The book took me on a dark roller coaster ride through Pen's life and the craziness that she seems to be the nexus of. The plot is excellent and the writing style is great. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me looking in the dark corners and behind every doorway. As it is written in first person, I really got a good look inside the thoughts of Pen about her past and future. I am really hoping to see more books by this author.
This book is awesome! Love it! Great author who writes great books! Keep up the great work, Aoife Clifford!
A terrific, thrilling debut novel from an Aussie author whose future work I look forward to. I love her style.
Unfortunately, this was a book that I simply did not have time to get to. Since I try to keep my blog current with new release views, it was just an over-whelmingly busy time.
This book kept my interest piqued. It was a very intriguing thriller!!! The twists and turns were absolutely unpredictable and the. characters were very relatable. I recommend this book to anyone who's looking for an amazing twisted thriller/suspense!
It switches tenses too much for me but it was a decent story.
I received a free ebook of All these Perfect Strangers from Random House in exchange for my review. #RHMysteryPack #Sponsored
I found the beginning of this book very confusing because of the number of characters, the chapters alternating between past & present. I found the college setting to be somewhat unbelievable with the amount of crime that occurred.
I struggled throughout the book - I just didn't find it the characters very interesting. I think the "Strangers' in the title refers to the fact that all the characters were very strange indeed!
I received this e-book for free from Random House Publishing to read and review. This is the first time hearing and reading about author Aoife Clifford. The e-book I read was All These Perfect Strangers. this book started out great but in the middle of the book through the end this book turned very strange. Pen the main character in this book is very strange. I think in part to her childhood and her mother. The book jumped back and forth from Pen present day and past Pen. At times that was very confusing and you really had to pay attention to the book. I understand why the author Aoife Clifford wrote the book that way. By the end I was still trying to decided if it everything really happened or if most of it happened in Pen mind. This a book every reader will need to read for themselves and decide for them,
This novel had so many twists and turns, it was hard to walk in a straight line with this one! Just when you thought you were figuring out what was really going on, the reader was left scratching one’s head. Penelope Sheppard, known by her family and friends as Pen was starting anew or rather, was given an incredible opportunity to start over at University with a full-ride scholarship. At first glance, nothing appears to be out of the ordinary with Pen, but strange occurrences continually happen when she’s around. Hmm, was this a mere coincidence, or deliberate?
When Pen was a teen, she and her bestie got into a little bit of trouble, which seems trouble is something that follows Pen throughout her life. Leaving behind old ghosts and shattered memories, she expected her college life would be different. While she’s sorting out the turmoil that keeps happening around her, she sees a psychiatrist to help her sort through her feelings, and that’s where the real story begins. One, two, three college friends end up dead. There’s a crazy student known as “Screwdriver Man” wielding his screwdriver and slashing up students. On the other hand, someone from University knows Pen’s secret and is threatening to put it out there for the whole campus to see and judge. Most of the student body liked Pen, but would they if they knew what she was really hiding? And then again, what exactly is Pen hiding from her friends?
As the reader winds through this labyrinth of plots and twists, where the reader ends up is quite shocking. If you think you’ve figured the story out, Clifford throws another red herring at you, and you’re left again wondering what path should I really be on. This was an incredible story. I absolutely enjoyed how Clifford toys with the reader’s emotions and mind, and pushes and pulls you in a thousand different directions. I must say, she did an amazing job at this because I was close to what I thought was happening in the story, but boy, that ending threw me for a big loop! The author gives great detail which paints a very distinct portrait of a young woman with a lot to hide and a lot to reveal. Not sure what I mean by that, you must read the book to see the full picture so vividly. What a great read. I really liked this book.
Mello & June, It’s a Book Thang! gives All These Perfect Strangers four stars. Clifford writes with such rich words leaving the reader in awe and excitement ready to dig further into the pages to find out what more lays ahead. Awesome read and one I think you’ll enjoy. Make sure you grab a copy, add to your reading lists or download immediately and get to reading. You will not be sorry. Enjoy! Happy Reading, Intellectual Minds!
I enjoyed this book. I read it all in one sitting, as it definitely pulled me in. The story alternates between different points in time in the story, which is sometimes confusing, but not to distracting. I would definitely read more books by this author in the future. The ending was definitely surprising.
This is a well thought out book and it really made me think. Pen has moved to a new town as she had been connected to the murder of a policeman in her old location for which she was found not guilty but which had left a a dark cloud over her involvement.
The details are told within a diary which Pen writes for her psychiatrist, but I am not convinced she reveals all. At the end I still hadn't made a decision as to whether she was innocent or guilty of any involvement in any of the occurrences. Thought-provoking.
I received a free advanced copy of this book from Chatterbox in exchange for an honest opinion.
I liked the story from the start. I really wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. (Both what would happen and what had happened in the past.) I did keep wishing that the back story had been doled out a little more often and earlier in the book. One thing I did not like was that I felt no connection to the characters. Even when characters are full of flaws, I tend to develop a connection with them..love, hate, somewhere in between. I really felt nothing for these characters. The author did do a good job of scene description. It was very easy to picture all of the places in my head. I liked the book, didn't love it. I would give this author another try.
I was unable to read this book as I lost my phone and was unable to retrieve the book file that was sent to me. This title has since been archived.
